Ringo Ringtone Manager

Editorial Rating

Overview:

The Ringo Ringtone Manager does exactly what the name implies: Manages the use of ringtones on your BlackBerry. Beyond simply setting tones for your calls, messages, and email, you also have full control over the volume of the tones and the vibration settings. It essentially replaces the profile manager on your BlackBerry with a slightly more intricate interface.

Ringo also offers the option to set different ringtones for your various contacts. You can also break your contacts down into groups and assign ringtones to the entire group.

Pros: The Ringo interface is very simple, allowing you to choose ringtones for calls, messages, and email easily. It took me no more than a minute to figure out how to set up the service. I also appreciated the pop-up that appears when you launch the program, telling you that you need to set your BlackBerry profile to "off" before using Ringo. The ability to download ringtones right from the program is nice, too. You can grab free ones, along with a selection of premium ringtones.

Cons:"Messages" is a very broad category, covering not only text messages, but BlackBerry Messenger, and any instant messaging services you have installed. So every time I get an IM on Google Chat, I hear the same sound as an SMS. The vibrate options are also lacking, as you can only choose to never vibrate, always vibrate, or vibrate on silent. So in order to completely silence the phone (because in reality, vibrations are not silent at all), I have to check "silence all" and also select "never vibrate" for calls, messages, and mail.
