Memory Up
Editorial Rating
Overview:Memory Up is a lightweight memory boosting application for Blackberry that sets out to reclaim lost memory from resource hungry programs. I have long been skeptical of memory boosting programs, especially ones priced at $5, $10, $15 or more as they never really seemed that useful to me. While having more memory on pre 4.6 Blackberries is nice (they have much more limited memory compared to 4.6 and above devices), the thought these programs that have been popping up could actually remedy the issue didn't seem very plausible. But do they really help?I can tell you that after several days with Memory Up, I will need to test several other memory boosting applications in order to see if there really is that much if any effect/added benefit. While I did notice *slight* to moderate increases in free memory (according to the program), the overall speed effect actually navigating throughout the Blackberry was no different than before I ran the application. I was pretty disappointed though unsurpised to say the least. I was hoping that the results would be more noticeable in real world use -- something I just didn't see. As mentioned earlier in this paragraph, inside the actual Memory Up program it shows you a very plain page with used, free, and total memory. I would often see vast changes in regards to before and after running the application. Though checking the system memory in options -> status depicted absolutely no change at all. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, maybe I'm missing something. I don't know. All I am doing is reporting to you what I experienced. The features of Memory Up are rather straight forward. There are some basic settings as to what applications and programs you want to allow/deny associated files and resources to be purged from your memory when Memory Up runs. Also, you can set Memory Up to run every time you open the application, or at a certain time. If you're in the hurry, there is a "Turbo Boost" option that is supposed to be a quick clean. After many tests of both the normal and turbo boost option I can honestly say I don't notice a difference in the amount of time needed to free up memory. Granted, the process isn't long by any means -- 10 - 20 seconds at most. In conclusion: Memory Up does appear to do what it claims, free up system memory. Though those hoping for some magic wand that will free up vast amounts of memory will be sorely disappointed. Whether Memory Up itself is the problem or these types of apps in general are pretty pointless remains to be seen as again, I need more exposure with different apps from different developers. If you're on the fence whether or not to purchase it, I'd advise holding off for now. Besides, battery pulls aren't that lengthy anyway. However, if battery pulls are the bane of your existence, then by all means give Memory Up a shot. Just don't expect a miracle. Pros: extremely lightweight install, quick operation Cons: Doesn't always free up memory, discrepancies between in-app memory monitor and stock BlackBerry (options -> status) memory monitor Detailed Software Information:Developed By: Memory Up Pro is developed by EmobistudioSupported BlackBerry Models: Memory Up Pro for BlackBerry is compatible with all models of BlackBerry running an OS of 4.2 or higher (7xxx and up).
