BerryWeather

Editorial Rating

Overview:

BerryWeather is a robust and rather aesthetically pleasing weather application for Blackberry devices that strives to bring a wider range of weather information to harder core weather followers while at the same time putting on a pretty face for those who are tired of 90's looking Blackberry weather apps.

If you are the type of person who is always watching the weather channel, checking the weather online at work, and even sitting on the porch watching the storms come in to your town, BerryWeather is one of the better options for Blackberry weather aficionados.

Likewise for Blackberry addicts, the addition of weather advisories being pushed to the device in real time give you a sense of readiness and keeps you up to date on two of your loves.  While the lack of a radar will push the storm chaser/thrill seekers away, those looking for a wide range of more "common" weather stats will find BerryWeather to be just the thing to satisfy their needs.

Overall, BerryWeather is a feature packed and robust weather application that should appease a majority of weather nuts.

Pros: Considering other Blackberry apps...Amazing eye candy and "fit and finish".  A very polished Blackberry weather application visually speaking. Extremely easy set up. It is as simple as entering City Name or Zip Code.  There is a very large database of cities meaning even the more obscure cities will receive weather support.

BerryWeather is very fast in updating and pulling down new weather information.  There is a huge assortment of customization options including profile alerts, custom LED notifications (BerrryBuzz required - sold separately), application themes (Widgets, Simple and Simple Dark), and user customizable backgrounds.  Ability to have weather conditions and temperature shown on homescreen.

Cons:Isn't free (in reality, you get what you pay for and BerryWeather is worth the $9.95) there is No radar.  The homescreen "live" icon and text on homescreen doesn't match.  On smaller/lower resolution screens such as 83xx devices, the full/expanded forecast doesn't fit on one screen.

While "city library" is full of even many obscure small cities that can be found, weather information may not show - "NA display"

**In regards to the "live" homescreen icon that shows temp and condition as well as the standard text that shows on the homescreen which also shows temp and condition, the discrepancy in weather information between the two is a bit concerning.  While it is possible that the discrepancy could be because one shows the recorded temp and one shows the real feel, checking online will show that even then the numbers don't make sense.  It's as if one is instant and one is delayed.  In testing, I have noticed that the homescreen text tends to be severely delayed from what the live icon depicts.

**After a few more days, the discrepancy between the icon temp and the text temp has become much less delayed almost to the point of always matching.  However, every once in a while I will find a discrepancy that requires me to drill down deeper into the app.  Something you might want to think about before purchasing this app**

The lack of a radar will be a let down to many.  Even though I used to have a Blackberry, ventured off to an iPhone and was spoiled with a number of great weather apps, and now have returned to Blackberry, the lack of a radar is a bit disheartening for a nearly $10 weather application.  If the developers added  a live radar, the app would definitely get a much needed boost.

And rounding out the list of big gripes for BerryWeather, while more obscure and smaller cities will be "found" when entering their information, getting any actual data appears spotty.  With several cities and towns near my own hometown being found I was hopeful, however only one actually pulled in any info with the others just displaying "NA" .
