Taking notes on your BlackBerry phone calls

Were you ever on a phone call and wanted to write something down, but didn’t have a pen and paper handy? It happened all the time to me, though my BlackBerry has done a great job so far of replacing the pen and paper in my life. I often use the memo pad application to write down things so I don’t forget them, syncing it to my computer for easy finding and execution. Sometimes, though, I don’t want to go into the notes application, especially if I’m on a phone call. There is a neat way, though, that you can make notes about a conversation which you can find and view later on.

When you’re on a phone call, click the trackball. You’ll see the menu pop up, and from there you’ll see an item labeled Notes. Click that, obviously. You’ll be in a screen where you can type in any stray thoughts you have about the conversation. Once you end the call, the note saves.

You access the notes from your call log. Go to the contact and select Call History. Then scroll down. As you can see in the screenshot, there’s a green notation next to calls with notes. Click the menu button when you’re hovering above a note. From there you can view or edit the note by selecting Edit Note, or you can forward the call information, with the note attached, as an email by selecting Forward.

What versions of Blackberry OS does this work on? This didn’t work on a phone running 4.5.
