Revalidating your Hotmail account on your BlackBerry

There are sometimes questions we receive that we can’t find a good answer to. Sometimes it’s because we don’t have the proper experience with that specific question, but most of those times we can find the answer elsewhere. Still, there are always a few that we just can’t answer. I feel terrible when that happens, but that doesn’t help solve the problem. I’ve seen a few comments recently, in addition to another handful of emails, asking about a message directed to Hotmail and other Windows Live email users. Since I don’t have a Hotmail account I didn’t know much about it, nor could I track down a decent answer. Thankfully, Ty at Inside BlackBerry has the scoop.

Basically, the message announces that you have to confirm your email account password by a certain date if you want service to continue. Most times these messages raise a red flag, since they’re the common precursors to phishing and other malicious schemes. In this case, however, the message is legit. Microsoft does require its users to revalidate every 360 days. Thankfully, the process is rather painless.

All you have to do is head into your BIS account and re-enter your Hotmail password. I wouldn’t recommend clicking on any links in the message you receive, but rather log into your BIS account on the desktop or through the Email Setup icon on your BlackBerry. Find your Hotmail (or other Windows Live) account, click edit, re-enter your password, and you’re done.
