Replacing your BlackBerry trackball

Posted by Joe on December 12, 2008

It caused a rabble when it was first added to the BlackBerry, but most people have come to know and love the BlackBerry trackball. Yeah, some people are harsh on it, and it can be fragile. But as long as you keep your trackball clean, you should be fine. There are times, however, when the thing just falls apart. My buddy had this happen to him a month or so back. After reading our article on cleaning your trackball, he popped his out. Only it slipped out of his hands, and he lost some parts of it. So what did he do?

He went online and bought one. I recommend BlackBerryTrackballs.com. They’re quick with the orders, shipping them the day they receive them. And from what I see here, they’re offering free first class shipping. If you live in New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, or Fort Lauderdale, you can even get same-day or next-day delivery. So they’re great in a bind.

Plus, their stuff is cheap: just $12.99 for the trackball. Once you get it, you just snap it into the housing and you’re done. I’d recommend taking a damp cloth and wiping out the copper piece in the hollow housing, though.
