How to schedule an appointment with Quick Entry

If you’re a fanatical user of the Calander in your BlackBerry 8800 series (I always tell people if they aren’t in my calendar, they will indeed be forgotten) you might find this tip to be of use. Normally, when you need to enter an appointment, you need to hit to calendar button, then find the time and click it and then enter in the details about the meeting.

Quick Entry helps shorten the time a bit. The amount of time it saves may seem trivial, but when you’re standing in a doctor’s office with an annoyed secretary watching you enter the appointment into your BlackBerry while three also annoyed people wait behind you, each second counts.

First, to use Quick Entry, you need to make sure the option is enabled. Click on your calendar, then click the menu key and go to “options”. Once there, ensure that “enable quick entry” has a “yes” listed next to it. Once Quick Entry is enabled, go back to the calendar screen by day and mouse over a time and start typing - no clicking to the secondary screen. To ensure everything ends up in the right fields, use the following format:

The name of the appointment (with the location in parenthesis)

Then scroll the trackball up or down to shorten or lengthen the end time of the appointment. Click the trackball once more and the appointment is automatically saved. Please note that Quick Entry only works when the calendar is set for the “initial view” to be a “day” in the options screen (which is the default).
