How to re-install BlackBerry Maps

Posted by Joe on December 19, 2008

A few months back we discussed deleting BlackBerry Maps from your device in order to free up memory. Honestly, it’s not the best map program out there, certainly not as good as Google Maps for Mobile. Yet, now BlackBerry Maps serves a function for Verizon users, who saw their GPS units uncrippled recently. If you’ve deleted BlackBerry Maps already, you might want it back now.

At first, I thought that maybe it would be the same method as re-adding your BlackBerry browser. Then I thought better of it. No way you can just go to your Host Routing Tables and have them re-send an application like BlackBerry Maps.

(Incidentally, if you can do that, let me know.)

Thankfully, RIM has made it simple. Just go to this page, where you’ll find a link to download BlackBerry Maps. Note that you need to be on Internet Explorer to do this. Seriously? Internet Explorer-only?

Joe, I did it using the desktop manager. It only took a couple of minutes.

I’m running OS 4.5, and the IE-only website linked says my blackberry isn’t supported. Any ideas?
