Getting rid of the globe icon on your BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on December 4, 2008

Running through the comments of the past few days I found this one by Nick R.. He has an obnoxious globe logo next to his message icon, and wonders how to get rid of it. Honestly, I’ve never seen this logo before. Nick explained that he got it when he tried to load a webpage in a non-service area. His Bold prompted him to save the search so he could retrieve it once in a service area. Now he says it won’t go away. If you’ve had this problem, read on.

This is a saved search. I had never seen the logo before because, well, I’ve never saved a Web search before. As you can see in the screenshot to the right, it’s nothing more than an icon, much like your message or BlackBerry Messenger icon.

Getting rid of it should only entail clicking on the saved search, which appears in your main messages folder. Barring that, though, you could always just hit Menu when highlighting it and hit delete. Either way, the icon should go bye bye once you do either. If that doesn’t work, may I suggest a battery pull?

I get that exact globe icon on my Bold when the weather is pushed to my device via my in-box. Viewing the message makes the icon disappear.

Guys — this icon is for a “Browser push message”. Thats the correct term.

Have had this Storm(9530) for about a week and one problem continues. When using the 9530 to place a call, a number of folks have commented that my voice is muffled no matter in which position I hold the phone. A call to both the 1-800 help line and taking it into my local VERIZON sales/service store confirm the same thing. The voice is understandable but it muffled. The VERIZON store tells me that BB is aware of the proble but the 1-800 help line says my voice in muffled but understandable but they are not aware of any such problem at BB.

Any help to correc the situation???

I’ve got nothing, Retired. Have you installed the latest OS update? I’m not sure that would help, but it’s worth a try.

Otherwise, is anyone else experiencing this problem?

yeah thanks for the help. Hidden deep inside one of the folders was a WAP message, found it and deleted the fuc£e$ and the globe disappered.

On the Bold, you’ll need to go into your main email account, hit menu and then select ‘View Folders’. The offending Browser Push Message can be found in the folder called ‘Browser Messages’.

Hope that helps.

Curtis, that did it. Thank you sooo much!

Finally got rid of that stupid icon!! It had been driving me mad for weeks. I found it the way Curtis suggests, it worked on my Storm as well as the Bold. Thank you :)

You cannot “highlight it and delete it”. It is an icon that sits above the main screen icons, and is not acessible by cursor. However, the initial method (locating the saved browser page in the message folder) DOES work. Thanks!!!!

To fix this just do a battery pull while the device is on.

Wait 30 second and then replace the battery – should be all fixed.

Thanks for the great information in this string. I have had the annoying globe icon for awhile with a 7 beside it. I have gone to messages/view folder/WAP Push Messages (do not have Browser Messages) and it’s empty. Nothing I do gets rid of the darn globe icon. Anything else I can try or am I missing something? Thanks!

#14368 Dune on September 30th, 2009 at 4:10 pm

I am an idiot, sorry to bother you. I didn’t think to “scroll up” to find the Browser Message folder. Problem solved and thank you all again.

I also have a “new email” icon that says I have 3 unread messengers but I’ve gone through the accounts and marked all as open but the illusive three are still at large..please help! I’ve also had replacement handsets and setup the accounts again but still to no avail! argh!

I have an annoying Icon above the Menu on the home screen, it has the number 2 next to the Facebook “F”

I have scoured folders etc but can’t seem to budge it, any ideas?

Cheers

@azakins – that indicates you have two new facebook messages / notifications.

If you have already been through your facebook updates etc then it may be a custom theme causing the problem. If you are using a custom theme I suggest swapping back to a default theme and doing a battery pull. When the device comes back on the notification should be back to normal. You can then go back to using a custom theme again.
