Copy and paste text with your BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on May 26, 2009 | 5 comments | Filed under : Quick Tips

We kick off the four-day week with a basic tip for BlackBerry users. The more advanced probably know how to do this already, but I’m sure this will benefit a few someones out there. Did you know your BlackBerry has a relatively simple copy and paste function? If not, you can find out how after the jump.

Once you find text you want to copy to the clipboard, scroll the trackball to the beginning. Then hold down the shift key and scroll to the end of the passage. This can be a bit frustrating at first, since it’s easy to scroll well past your intended point. Once you have all of your text selected, hit the Menu button. You should see an option for Copy. Click it.

Just like copying on your computer, the text is now stored on the BlackBerry clipboard, ready for pasting whenever you wish. Just find an editable text field and hit the Menu button. You’ll see the option Paste towards the top. Just click, that, and the text will appear wherever your cursor is on the screen.

To clear the clipboard, go to Options, Security Options, Memory Cleaning. Set it to Enable, and then hit the Menu button. Select Clear Now. It will clear up some memory, including the contents of the clipboard.

If the method of selecting text mentioned in this post is irritating, you can also situate your cursor to the beginning of the text you want, press the menu button, hit “select”, scroll to the end of the desired text, press menu again and copy.
