Sometimes, you just need to know if an email was delivered or read. Read receipts are pretty common nowadays. If you’re not familiar with them, they essentially send along a dialog box with an email. When the user selects okay, the sender is notified that the particular email has been read. If someone sends you such an email from your BlackBerry, it automatically sends the read receipt (or at least it used to — if this has changed, let me know). You can send your own read receipts, too, by checking your message options. So head to Messages, Options, Email Settings.
Once you’re here, you’ll want to click on your email address under Message Services. Each email address has different settings, so you can send read receipts from one address and not another. As you can see to the right, I’ve turned off Send Read Receipts, because for the most part I find it annoying.
You’ll notice a number of other settings here as well. When I downloaded OS 4.5 for my Curve, I noticed that I was getting delivery confirmation emails. These aren’t harmful, really — they don’t even show up on my BlackBerry, just my desktop Inbox. Still, they’re unnecessary, so I turned that off. Same with teh Confirm Read option.
Another thing you can do, if you want to save data and/or load time, is to turn off HTML email and Download Images Automatically. Both of those will make your emails load faster. Some prefer this on, but it’s nice to know you have an option.

Your screenshot clearly shows how to enable and disable the sending of read receipts. It’s the last option in your list there.
That’s what I said in the post. Or at least what I had intended to say.
I have two email accounts on my Curve. I have confirm delivery, confirm read and send read receipts turned off on both accounts. I am still receiving ‘delivered’ messages in my sent mail folder on one of the accounts (the default sending account). I reset the device several times and no change. Help?
@Debbie – this is a common problem , but not one with a standard fix. The best info I can find is to resend your BIS service books and to do a hard battery pull on your BlackBerry. Note: Many of the people complaining of this have mentioned being on ATT. If they are your provider, I am not sure that you will be able to stop the receipts from coming in.
From what I’m reading in researching this very topic is that the confirmations will turn off receipts for POP / IMAP accounts only. If your e-mail account is on an MS Exchange server, it will automatically send the read receipt and delivery notifications and you have no option to stop it.
