Cleaning your Tour 9630 trackball

Posted by Joe on February 22, 2010 | 22 comments | Filed under : Quick Tips

In the past we’ve explained how to clean your BlackBerry trackball if it’s starting to stick or otherwise malfunction. Problem is, you can’t use the same method for the Tour 9630. The housing is a bit different, and it doesn’t allow you to remove the ball. Thankfully, CrackBerry forums user kingzee made a video showing you how to clean the trackball using just a strip of paper. If you’re having problems with yours, or just want to keep yours in good repair so you don’t face issues in the future, check out this video.

Onuoha, it could be any number of issues. It could be the battery, or it could be something internal. Try hooking it up to your computer and starting. If that doesn’t work it might be at the end of its line.

I couldnt get the paper to go in. Just saw another youtube video for an alternative route that did the trick for me. Lock the screen. Put a sheet of paper down on a hard surface. Tun the phone upside down and rub it up and down on the sheet of paper. Cleared right up and good as new again.

Is it possible to fix my blackberry Tour once it has said…Uncaught exception: java.lang.Error

The phone turns on once you take the battery and and put it back in but the buttons wont work so the phone just goes to sleep after a few seconds.

You can just pop it out with a small screw driver then clean then pop it back in

Thank you for the tip!! My trackball moves like it is brand new again.

Who says you can’t remove the trackball?
I started down the “paper chase” but quickly discovered that by using a thin plastic strip instead of paper you can pop the ball out (it’s rubberized), clean it up, and pop it back in.

cheers.

@sylvia Most likely a loose connection as a result of moving or bumping something when you changed the housing.

Not much I can suggest aside from opening it up again and checking connections etc.

Hey, i just changed my tour 9630′s housing.. and the flash doesn’t seem to work anymore… do you know why? or how i can fix it?

A much easier solution is to take the 5 minutes required and have Verizon ship you a new one; with luck, they will have shipped you an Essex by mistake.
