Changing your BlackBerry auto signature

Posted by Joe on February 13, 2008

A couple of days ago, Rae asked me to do a piece on how to change or remove the auto signature on your BlackBerry. You know, like the one I used to have that said “Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry.” I was kind of confused at first. “That’s easy,” I said. “You just log into your BlackBerry account and change the preferences of your email.” But then she reminded me that not all BlackBerry users have that login. Duh, I thought. What about the BES crew? They’re probably going to want to change their signatures, too.

Changing the auto signature on your personal BlackBerry

Go to your carrier’s login page — listed below — and enter your login information. If you haven’t created an account yet, you’ll be given that option at the login screen.

Once logged in, you’ll be able to set up the email addresses you can view from your BlackBerry. Once you set one up, go back to the dashboard screen, where you can click on the options for your email address (it’s the leftmost button below):

You can find your dashboard by carrier below:

Alltel: http://www.alltel.blackberry.com/
AT&T: http://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=mycingular
Sprint: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=nextel
Rogers: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=rogers
Telus: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=telus
T-Mobile: https://my.t-mobile.com/Login/Default.aspx
Verizon: https://bis.na.blackberry.com/html?brand=vzw

Once you click on the options, you’ll come to a screen with information on your email address and passwords. That’s where your auto signature box will be. Change or delete it, and then hit “Save.” Yep, you’re done.

Changing your auto signature from a BES

If you’ve got your BlackBerry through work and are using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, your task will be slightly different. There are actually two options here.

First, you can do it through your Desktop Manager. Simply run the program, and go into “email settings.” From there, click on the second tab, which will show your auto signature. You can change it or just turn it off…whichever works for you.

Alternatively, you can do this right from your handheld. Just go to your messages, and click “options.” Then click on email settings, where you’ll be greeted with the option to change your auto-signature.

And there you have it. Whether you’ve got a corporate BlackBerry or a personal one, you can make it like you’re sending emails from anywhere. Because hey, we all need to get away from the office for a day, right?

Trouble is you CAN’T change the AUTO Signature on Verizon Wireless. I even tried to highlight it / select it and it wouldn’t let me even delete it. Any suggestions?

Also, is there any way to unlock the photos that are loaded onto the blackberry pearl so that I can edit it in a photoshop with my logo ontop of it and then load it back in as my desktop?

Any info would be MUCH Appreciated.

I just got off tech support with Verizon. They confirmed that you can’t change the auto signature line if you are using MS Exchange server. So far as I can tell, everyone in the USA with a Blackberry and Verizon has the line “Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry.” tacked onto the end of every email they send from their handheld device.

How amazingly frustrating and non-customer-centric!

frustrated, I called Blackberry. They put me in touch with a different Verizon person in Verizon Tech Support dedicated to Blackberry.
This guy directed me to the same link as above – gave me my login name and password… and wow… it works! I can change my signature line. Life is better!

Thank you soooo much for this! I am so happy to be able to change my signature. Why do they make it so hard? Lucky for me, I found your instructions – making it easy again! You’re the best!

Changing signature requires Internet Exploerer – does not work (at least, as of Dec08) with Firefox

You can do this from the settings page on a BlackBerry storm.

Just under Setup/Email Setup

Select the signature field, hit clear field in the BB menu, save, presto.

That said, i cannot seem to log into my BIS account, i even set up a new account for BIS via my storm. But nothing.

Ah well.

Am I missing something? I’m able to add text to the autosignature, but it still shows “Sent via my Blackberry wireless device” after the text I entered. I don’t see this anywhere in the text box and it appear to be phantom. Help anyone? I have TMobile by the way.

I can’t really tell if you all were able to rectify the auto signature issue, but here is how you set up your auto signature right from the Storm (this is only if you are using the BIS (Blackberry Internet Service = personal or pop3 email) not the BES (Blackberry Enterprise Server = corp email).

From the today or short screen of icons, push the RIM logo button on the phone that looks like spots. This will open the all icons available.

Choose the set up icon.

Go to email settings.

For each email account you have set up highlight and click on the email address listed at the top of the page. Scroll down on the General Settings there to find what you are looking for.

From that page you can alter the address, your listed name as you would like it and signature. You signature can be blank or you can change it to something witty. Whatever.

There is also the option for auto blind carbon copy and sync on deleted items between device and account.

Be prepared, you must have your email account password in order to make any changes here.

Hit save and it will tell you if you were successful or not.

Good luck!
