Changing the background of your BlackBerry

Posted by Rae on January 7, 2008 | 11 comments | Filed under : Quick Tips

Snicker if you must, but there are a lot of people who 1. don’t know how to do this because they 2. hate to read directions that are part of a “huge” manual. We won’t mention who in our office was the reason we know 1 and 2 above to be true.

Changing the background (also known as wallpaper) for the home screen on your BlackBerry 8800 series is a simple task. Click on the media icon and then mouse over the pictures icon and press down on the trackball. Choose the folder that contains the picture you’d like to set as your background image and click the trackball.

Note, if you’re using a custom picture you’ve put onto the BB then this will be the “device memory” folder for most users. If you’d like to change the home screen to another image of those that came with the BlackBerry, then the folder you want will be “preloaded pictures”.

Mouse over the picture you’d like to use as your background image and hit the menu key. From the menu screen, choose “set as home screen image”. Now hit the escape key until you’re back at the home screen and you’ll see the image has changed to whatever you’ve chosen.

7 Theme Review Wednesdays: Sunny Days, Rocker Chic, BB Pre | BB Geeks July 1, 2009 at 2:29 pm

[...] The icons, of course, match those of the Pre. That seems to be the calling card of these emulation themes. While it’s difficult, if not impossible, to capture the nature of the UI, the icons are one area which theme developers can duplicate. These are easy to recognize icons. The text is sleek, and the menus are basically the same. The default wallpaper is the same as the Pre snapshots we’ve seen, but like the Pre it’s just as easy to change your wallpaper. [...]
