What are you doing to save precious BlackBerry battery life? It seems everyone has their methods for keeping that bar as full as possible. A low battery indicator is no good for the battery and no good for our nerves. Things like dimming the backlight or auto-locking your BlackBerry (so the backlight goes out faster) are examples of some things people do to conserve battery. Today we’ll go over another: scheduling automatic off and on times.
The procedure is rather simple. Head to Options and then select the obvious option, Auto On/Off. Here you’ll see the schedule:

You can set it separately for weekends and weekdays, which I’m sure many BBGeeks appreciate. Just set the times you want your BlackBerry to shut off, and then select Enable. Save that up, and now your BlackBerry will shut off automatically at the designated times.
In addition to saving battery life, you can use auto on/off to create a distraction-free environment for a certain part of the day. That’s what I use it for. Block out an hour and cut out all noise to focus on one thing. It’s quite refreshing to not have my BlackBerry beep or buzz during that hour.

I find it easier to just set my phone on the dock at night to keep the battery full for the next day, this could be useful for the quiet time scenario though.
My problem is that I go out drinking a lot and can’t figure out how to turn the thing on when I’m all lit up at 3am. Of course, I’m also drunk-dialing an old GF at that time so maybe this is a good thing.
I also like to have an extra battery in an external charger and just swap batteries. This is a big reason why I would not consider moving to iphone, although there are many others.
I have the cradle with room to charge and extra battery and always carry a spare. I also use one of thos sleek smooth leather pouches to immediately darken it after each use.
If turning off your BlackBerry for too long of a time sounds too difficult for some of you more addict folk out there, I’ve written an article that gives three helpful tips on how you can help my your battery’s life span a little bit long, and also help a charge last longer.
