Overview:
Sprint merged with Nextel in 2005 and ever since then, they have been providing their customers with excellent service in phone, internet and wireless capacities. Through Nextel, they offer data plans for BlackBerry and other PDAs.
Pros: Sprint has straightforward BlackBerry plans that include several different features. They all have voice features, including voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, caller ID block, three-way calling, numeric paging, emergency calls without airtime charges, and non-emergency calls using special charges. The prices are pretty good, as well – much lower than Verizon’s prices and the plans include the same features.
Cons: Sprint has a limited number of BlackBerry plans to choose from, and there is no data-only option. Text messaging is not included on Sprint’s data plans.
Detailed Provider Information:
Voice Plan Options: For consumers, Sprint offers their Simply Everything and Everything plans. These combine voice and data options. Simply Everything costs $99.99 per month and includes unlimited voice, messaging, data, email, and more. The Everything plans come with either 450 minutes for $69.99 per month, or 900 minutes for $89.99 per month, and includes all of the unlimited messaging and data options of the Simply Everything plan, plus nights and weekends.
Data Options: All Sprint BlackBerry data plans are purchased in conjunction with a voice plan. See Voice Plan Options for Sprint's Simply Everything and Everything plans.
Messaging Options: Text messaging is included in Sprint's BlackBerry plans.
Customer Service: The Sprint website has a page solely dedicated to support – you can enter a search question or browse through their frequently-asked questions to find your answer. If you still don’t find what you’re looking for, you can sign onto the website and participate in a live chat with a representative who will help you.
Contract: If you break your contract early, you will be responsible for an early termination fee of "up to $200". Most phones carry a two-year contract at minimum if you want to get the cheaper price.
Messaging: With Sprint's Everything and Simply Everything plans, unlimited messaging is included.
International Calling and Messaging: You will have to activate international roaming in order to take advantage of international calling and messaging. The number is 1-888-226-7212 – customer service representatives will help you. Sprint bills you for the amount of data you’ve used, normally by the KB.
Roaming Charges: There are charges for when you’re roaming, but the good thing is, there is roaming coverage even outside of Sprint’s network coverage. Some services may not work while you’re roaming – e.g. data services, voice mail, or call waiting.
Activation Fee: According to Sprint’s website, activation charges will be discussed with you when you sign up for a new line. Activation charges vary from state to state.
Additional Features: 411 access is $1.79 per call in addition to airtime charges and call forwarding is $0.20 per minute.
Insurance: There is a one-year warranty on the phones.
Phones: Sprint offers the BlackBerry Tour 9630. The website offers you the option of upgrading or replacing your device or buying one with a new plan.
Some Additional BlackBerry Models Available:
BlackBerry Curve 8330
BlackBerry Pearl 8130
BlackBerry 8830
Coverage Map: The Sprint coverage map tool can be found here. You must enter your zip code to check the coverage in your area.
I purchased the latest Blackberry with all the bells and whistles (the "world" edition) from Sprint. After dropping $300, plus $100 a month, I've had to spend countless hours on the phone with Sprint Customer Service (who has no $%&# clue what they're doing, I've even had them say this to my face). The data service (phone as modem) works pretty well and is fast, but the phone sucks! I can't tell you how many dropped calls or just poor service I've had with the phone. Luckily for them I'm in a 2 year agreement, otherwise my ass would be hitting the road!
I work for sprint (not Corp). I would like to update some off the plans. They have a 30 plan that includes unlimited txt, but doesn't include BES. The unlimited plan for BES is 39.99 not 59.99 and that includes phone as modem. And as for blackberry support they are horrible. I would tell you to go into a store versus calling them up. It would more then likely be a more pleasant then over the phone. Honestly when I have a problem I call my tech guys and only call them to tell them what I need to be done. I have the 8830 I don't get drop calls maybe you need to do a PRL update which updates the service on your phone.
I have a BlackBerry and the new 30 dollar EVDO plan for BlackBerry apes include unlimited GPS text basic TV and basic music channels I am very happy with Sprint and my Pearl
I have the world phone every month I have problems with my bill by sprint one from the customer service is telling me 1 thing and the other is telling me another thing I am paying $300 every month instant of $100 I can't wait to finish my agreement and drop them and go to Verizon and pay that $20 difference each month
i have 8330 wolrd phone and love it.... no problems with bills or service... sprint and verizon are on same network cdma my sprint uses verizo network if i hav no coverage..... and sprint speed puts all other companies to shame been there.... cant wait till curve 8330 comes out
Sprint service is bad. Sprint and Verizon use CDMA but Sprint calls always dropped. Will move bad to Verizon as soon as my cantract ends.
I was with Nextel for 4 years, then last November moved to Sprint and renewed my contract when I bought the 8130. Any problems, they've never let me down. Great phone.
How do you do an PRL update?
I love the Pearl that I bought in March. I have only had a few small problems, but nothing that was the phone's fault. The Pearl is an awesome phone and have not had any problems with coverage or billing. I have been with Nextel for 15 Years and yes, their service sucks, but Sprint has much better coverage around my area. I only pay 69.99/mo. and i have unlimited texts, unlimited web access, sprint tv, sprint music store, i can talk to any Sprint, Nextel, Boost Mobile, or Virgin Mobile customer for free and i have 450 anytime minutes. I don't know what you people were looking at when you were looking at their plans, but look again
I have to agree with Delroy. My 8830 favors EVDO at the expense of voice quality. I perpetually have 1-2 bars and voice calls get dropped all the time. I have swapped out the 8830 hardware with no change. I love the email and calendar integration via BES< but I'm going to have to give that up to have a phone that works as a phone.
I just purchased an 8330, had a 7520 for years and love it. I talk at work where Verizon ppl get no signal, the EVDO is super fast and have not had one dropped call.
I want to say that I have had the blackberry pearl, world edition, and just bought the 8330 curve. I have NO complaints with any of the phones or service. Way to go Sprint!!!
Sprint's $99/mo for all rocks...unlimited calls, internet access, and text messaging is included. No hidden charges, etc.
I just got the BlackBerry 8330 Curve a few days ago and I love. For $30 a month for the BB plan I get unlimeted e-mail, text, internet/data on the EVDO network. Sprint's customer sevice on the phone is a hit and miss situation, but in the store is a lot better. Service has been great for the 11 years I have used them. If you think about it what carrier does not have service issues once in a while. Equipment does wear out.
Actually we have a "Simply Everything" plan has unlimited EVERYTHING. Just to let you know.
I have had Sprint Service for the past 11 years and would not think about switching. I get a new Blackberry every year and yes, it sucks that Verizon gets all the cool equipment, but as for the service, Sprint is hands down the best.
I have been on Sprint for about 5 months now and have no complaints. I was previously a verizon customer until I got my blackberry and started getting charged additional fees for using blackberry standard programs that come with the phone. The same features are free to use on Sprint. I currently have 2 blackberries on a 1500 Family Share plan with Unlimited BB Service/Unlimited Text and Picture Message / Unlimted internet and ponly pay 129.99 total for both phones. On verizon this would easily cost more than $250 for the same plan. I am very happy that I changed and have had no problems with my Sprint Service.
I just bought the Blackberry 8330 with the everything data plan. The phone is awesome once you learn all the tricks and Sprint prices are unbeatable.I left AT&T. only problem I have is no one at Sprint knows anything about a blackberry.
I have the Blackberry Curve 8330 from Sprint and have had it for only 1 1/2 months so far. Before that I was with AT&T and have been a Blackberry owner for a few years. I love the fact that I pay $69.99 a month for everything! No one can touch that! 450 min is just fine with unlimited nights/weekends at 7pm, unlimited text, picture, unlimited BIS and GPS. Verizon and AT&T have nothing on that. I will agree as above though that Sprint has no idea how to run a Blackberry or fix it. I had to show a customer in the store how to reset her Blackberry because the two workers at the store didnt know how!
I am a retail rep with Sprint and they have far more than 3 options for the Blackberry plans. Also if on a Blackberry plan it is unlimited data. There are no such overage charges on a Blackberry data plan.
I have the sprint 8330 blackberry curve. Best phone I ever had. And have had phones since early 80'es THE BEST THANKS SPRINT
I have been with Sprint sooo long that I can't remember the last phone carrier I had. Recently bought a Blackberry Curve 8330, the best phone I have ever owned and the coverage with Sprint beats everyone else hands down. A friend has the same phone with T-moblie and she can never find a signal to make calls. Keep up the great work Sprint, I will be with you forever!!
Your early termination fee is listed as 'up to $200', but it's actually more. They charge you $200, no matter when you cancel, even 1 day before your contract expires, so the 'up to' suggests prorating, which is untrue. On top of the $200, Sprint will charge you tax totaling an additional $18-20. I recently dumped Sprint on one phone, and although I am still a customer on other Sprint services, was charged $218. The $18 was listed as tax, but I disagreed with Sprint on taxing a fee. I believe it's illegal, at worst, and bad form at best. I spoke with 5 levels of support and each agreed with me that they should not be charging customers taxes on fees, however, each level was neutered and pushed my issue to a higher level. Each person I spoke to could not tell me how a fee could be taxed (it's not a service, nor is it a good). Ultimately, they refused to talk to me (I stayed calm and professional through the 3 hours of phone calls), and they eventually "dropped" my call. I called back, and surprise, not a single reference of my calls, and no one at Sprint would call me back. I ended up paying the $18 to avoid a credit black mark, which they threatened, as well as collections. I'm sure they would do it, too.
I have a sprint 8830 curve and there plans are way cheaper than at@t I have been with sprint since 05 and was formerely nextel I have the 129.99 plan with unlimited web tv messaging pretty much anything data and 1500 min shared with 3 phones I have no problem with their service and or bill and by the way now sprint has dedicated a coustomer service just for blackberry users and belive it or not very helpful I don't know where you all geting ur plan prices but need to be updated they are the best provider to have period one last note they actually will sit there and help u set up and help u understand everything your phone does no other provider will do that sprint rocks!!!!
The quality of the phone service is fine. The problem I have is with the poor customer service and the smoke and mirrors. It took me all night on the phone to end up disappointed about being lied to.
I have been with sprint for 9 years. I just up graded from the "instink" It has a lot of locking up problems. I now have the curve. when it comes to phone calls the :instink" was a lot better. But the curve lets me do more every where i go. I dont like the batter life of the curve and it is a little hard to learn to use but if a dum hill billy like me can you can to.
My big consern is I work in the oil feid I wont to know how durabull it is I stay wet, sandy and hot. I drop my phone alot. I have orderd the otter box but it dont take care of the wet problem is there something out there that will.
The instink you can drop it get it wet run over it with a truck even drop it a mud hole and not know its gone for about 10 min. go back find it and us it right away. Sprint service by phone, fire the foriners I cant under stand them. I store you cant ask for any better.
i have the simply every thing plan from sprint and love it my bill is never over 112 a month no going over
Sprint is suppost to somewhat be one in the same with Nextel, my provious provider. Sprint dropps calls in my home constantly, displays the wrong time SB time instead of LaPorte time because I live close to the time change line. I can never use the alarm clock because you never know when it might flip. It roams not even 2 min from my home. I have had to call 911 and the phone would not unlock which happens often. The most upsetting thing though is that the bill is NEVER correct so instead of paying it every month you have to take an hour to untagle the mess. This is awful and has gone on for atleat 6 months every month. The most recent happening was the icing on the cake. I have the same phone as my daughter and my phone was not receiving text except from sprint. I could send them though. Well after 3 to 4 hours of my life I will never get back appartetly the services center cannot fix it and is unwilling to send me a phone where texting works. They just want me to continue to pay for texting for the next 1 year and 1/2 and they are sorry. The money it cost to get out of their contract is worth it and I will do everything in my power to let others know how piss poor their service is. I will NEVER take out a contract with sprint again.
I have to say that out of all the other cell phone providers that I have EVER had, Sprint has been one of the best. The services are amazing where I live where other phones don't work as well as mine and I have currently had the blackberry 8330 since May of 2008 and with customer service has been a come back in the last year. The issues that sometimes have to be dealt with are the same you see with any provider if you look at the reviews. Sometimes its just someone blowing off steam since they don't understand or think its not fair.
As an airline employee, I can honestly say that Sprint is hands down the best nationwide coverage! I've used Verizon and AT&T previously, but never again....and my Blackberry 8330 is the BEST phone I've ever owned!
I have had the 8130 for almost 1 year now with Sprint. Coverage is great. I even took a trip back to Alaska where they only have AT&T as a service provider and I only dropped 1 call. My only problem with my phone is that dosent do MMS messages. I have to send pics and videos thru e-mail which sucks. Sprint needs to fix that. The Pearl on any other service provider can do MMS but not Sprint. What is the deal with that? Maybe there is an update that I don't know about if so can anyone help me out.
I currently own a Motorola Q9c (love this phone). I have been with Sprint since 1998, I don't have problems with Sprint most of the time, but whenever I change cell phone plans or make adjustment on my account...Sprint rep can never get it done right. I have to call Sprint back several times before my bill is correct. That is the only compliant I have...as far as the drop calls, I can live with that since I don't stay on the phone for hours every day. One more thing, Sprint offer very decent corporate discount, so I would stay with Sprint just for that reason. Wish Sprint offer more phone choices like other carriers. Over all...I like Sprint's customer service in the store, I don't have any bad experience with the support rep on the phone neither. Please remeber any cell phone company has it's pros and cons...Sprint saves me $$$$ and that's what count.
I have been a Sprint customer for the last 6 years. I have been very happy with their service. Anytime I have had a problem, they have resolved it to my satisfaction and then some. I have been with other carriers in the past and I have had the best coverage from Sprint. I get a signal almost everywhere when I have friends on other carriers that have to stand on thier heads and hold one leg to the west to make a phone call. As for their customer service over the phone....that leaves something to be desired at times. I often go into the store when I have an issue and they will call customer service for me if needed.
As for the Blackberry, I just purchased the BB 8330 Curve after being a ddiehard Sanyo phone owner for many years. I've wanted one for a long time and hesitated because I had heard it has issues with suddenly erasing texts or emails. Then I discovered that everyone that told me that was happening was on AT&T. I've only had my BB for a few days but I love it!
I have had Sprint service for many years.I have never had any problems with their service. I recently bought a BB Curve 8330 and I really like it. This is my first blackberry and I am still learning all the features. Someone wrote about having trouble with not being able to send MMS messages with their phone. I had the same problem until I found out that all I needed to do was update the platform to version 4.5 which I downloaded on sprint's website. Phone works fine now and I have no problem sending picture mail by attaching pics on mms text messages.
Have had nothing but problems with Sprint and my bb 8330. Drop calls, internet times out, Nascar mobile drops regularly. Tech support is a joke, it's like calling a drunk retard to help you. Customer service speaks little to no english and understands less than that. Could type another 3000 words of the crap I've had to endure. Cant wait to go to Verizon when contract is up.
Ha-Ha-Ha!... I have a BB STORM I'm useing on the Sprint/Virgin Network, It's been Flashed to do so, and I have Virgin's Unlimited Nationwide 24/7 plan. Best of all- NO CONTRACT! But I need to Install Sprint's service books to get the browser to work... anyone know how,-remember, this is a Verizon STORM originally?????????
Have been a Sprint customer since 2000, never had real problems, now I have my firt Blackberry, the plan includes unlimited everything.
Renewing a contract to get a discount on a blackberry 8330 was the biggest mistake of 2009. I'm on my fifth "replacement" phone, currently using a very old flip phone my friend had lying around because the blackberry freezes for several hours at a time. Wouldn't even be able to dial 911 if I needed to. Everyone I talk with at sprint customer service either has an attitude because I want them to help or seems like they know what they're doing and claim they're going to resolve my issues. I've been told by two different reps in the past week they would get me a different device sent out to me and never did. So I'm still stuck here with a blackberry that doesn't work, paying a BB priced plan on an old crappy phone, and a two year contract. Sprint customer service is horrible.
Im still using my World edition I recieved 2 years ago from my Employer, just awitched it from their plan to my own as they let me keep the handset and never once have I had to replace the handset, calls are crystal clear, never a dropped call to date and finally have sprint tv since the 4.5 software upgrade. I dont know why you say sprint doesnt know anything about Blackberrie's all the dealings we have had as a school district has been awesome. For the few handsets that had to be replaced, we called (And spoke to english speaking people) and had them shipped to us within 2 working days. Anyone can find fault in any provider and i am sure people have problems but no one is making you stay with them. If service is that bad change provider. After all if you can afford a blackberry and its plan, I am sure you can afford the cancellation fee.
I'm with Dave on that one, well said even though you need to learn to spell especially working for a school district. My 8830 is almost 2 years old and still going strong, as is the support I receive from Sprint (Amazingly the ones I speak to also speak English better than me and I'm an Englishman). As the man says, if you don't like it, no one is making you keep it. If service really is as bad as that I would gladly pay $200 cancellation fee to escape such a provider.
UPDATE your page BBGEEKS..!
I have had Sprint for YEARS without any problems. Recently picked up the Blackberry Curve 8330, and so far LOVE it! First was the LG LX350 (flip) second was a Samsung M800 Instinct. Each an upgrade from the phone before, I should have went straight to a Blackberry... :)
My service has been excellent over the years. Will continue my service contract with Sprint for years to come.
One issue as with ALL companies is non native english speaking (or english as a second/third language) customer service reps...
Blackberry phone nothing but problems. Picking up my 3rd blackberry in less than 8 months. Why not a new blackberry? Because the replacement is a REM piece of garbage. Stuck till January with a lousy phone and I'm paying on average 85 a month for a phone that has data and internet problems crashes drops calls and locks up. I don't think sprint gives a damn about their customers.
hi i am really trying to find out info notice my friends i phone extremly fast and alot of apps but MY SPRINT BLACKBERRY CURVE SLOW INTWRNET AND THEY SAY 3 G NETWORK I WAS USING BLACK BERRY WITH TMOBILE ABOUT SAME SPEED CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE LOOKING FOR FAST NETWORK WITH ALOT OF APPS
I've been with Sprint for a while. I recently got an upgrade to a blackberry and they informed me that I can't use it unless I add the 30.00 a month for the data plan. I will NEVER use the internet on my phone so why do I need to pay that amount? Will it not activate without it? All I have to do is text and call, simple as that.
I just switched to Sprint in September after using At&t prepaid for a while, and I was able to get a bb curve 8330 for $150 with a $100 rebate. Its definitely the best phone I've ever had, and I signed up for everything data family with another line. Its 129.99 a month with the new any mobile, any time feature that lets you call any mobile phone from any carrier for free. The bb works fine, except the new beta opera browser caused my media player to stop working, but an uninstall fixed it. And ever since yesterday, the sprint tv app has been moving really slow and the nfl network channel hasn't worked at all. I don't know what the issue is yet but hopefully it starts working eventually. Other than that, I'd give it 5 stars.
I just got the Blackberry Curve 8330 from Sprint. I orginally had a Nextel i880 phone. I also got my BB for $150 with a $100 rebate, also my phone qualified for a $35 buyback credit. Awesome. I felt like a rich man with a BB and its nice because i get unlimited everything(except mobile to landline) for only $69.99. Great Deal. I told my vice-president of ops after i met with him for lunch and he even told me... damn good deal. It's your call on what you want. Research the offer for the BB you want.. match it with a good plan and enjoy.
I have a Sprint Blackberry data package and unlimited text mail is in it, along with navagation, and data. I like the navagation better than my Garmen.
I have had my BB Curve for almost a month and I swear I can’t put the darn thing down! I am super pleased with this phone and the support from Sprint. I accidently wiped out my phone a few weeks ago and the CS Rep was patient with me thru my hysterics and helped me get set back up with all of my saved apps. I can’t see myself using any other phone than a BB after this great experience. It freezes every blue moon but nothing too catastrophic. It is a cell phone after all and NOTHING is 100% all the time right?
I just have to say to those low star raters must be from user in Mexico or “Bugtussell” USA. I have excellent service from Sprint, for my BB 8330. Apps run fast and the customer service is great (No I don’t work for Sprint) I was so pleased I opened an “Everything data” for my family (4 lines) and I am very happy with both my device my service. And as for the AT&T, well they do have great service in the mountains (recent camping trip) “4 bars” but the users in the building where I work (San Diego) have to go outside to make calls.
We just got 2 BBs for the two for one deal and we are having problums droped calls browser times out. I know my wife has had major problums getting customer service help she thought she got a good one and convenced her to go with this plan to save money . Now we have new problums I am going back to their store to see if anything can be done?
