Highlights include:
Once again, the Curve was the top selling smartphone in America. It beat out two iPhone models in the third quarter, including the 3GS, which was released at the end of the second quarter but which had a full quarter in the third to rack up sales. Apple had success, too, with the 3GS selling the second most models, followed by the original 3G. RIM wrapped up the top five with the Tour and the Storm.
How will this change in the fourth quarter? People are going to buy a bit more, as usually happens in the fourth quarter, but now they have even more choices. RIM has the Storm 2, the 9700, and even the 8530 to help boost sales. A number of Android phones also came out in the fourth quarter, one or more of which could enter the top five.
And don’t forget the Pearl 2. We’re just starting to get information on that, and it looks like another winner.
