BBGeekcast: May 9, 2008 – Episode 11

Posted by Joe on May 9, 2008

Thankfully, RIM has been providing us plenty of fodder for discussion. We talk about two new BlackBerry devices, the Javelin and the Niagra. Plus, a little rant on the BlackBerry 9000. The Curve’s finally out (!!), and we have a couple of new applications to discuss.

So click on over here to hear the BBGeekcast (10 min, 0 sec)

And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you won’t miss future episodes!

You can also subscribe to the BBGeekcast in iTunes.

Highlights include:

You had to figure that the week the Curve was released on Sprint and Verizon, a thousand rumors would precede it. You can find the rumors here.

You can check out the highlights of the BlackBerry 9000 review: Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

We’re going to see two new BlackBerry devices at some point: The Javelin and the Niagra. The Javelin is, in essence, the EDGE version of the 9000 (boooo). It does have a 3.2 MP camera, so that’s an upgrade. The Niagra is supposedly the CDMA version, without WiFi (boooo), but with the spec sheet saying OS 4.7. So that’s something to think about.

Couple of app upgrades: TwitterBerry 0.6 and the Facebook app. Except the “is” still resides in the status message. Lame.

Hi Joe,
I’m enjoying the podcast, thank you. A little note if I may, I’ve been podcasting for 3 years over at the MacReviewCast.com and I’ve noticed that the background music tracks are much louder then your voice, it drowns out your voice, and at times, makes me change volume levels between your comments and the music. I would be very happy to help you get your levels right in the podcast to make listening a more pleasant undertaking for your subscribers. Just email me.
Keep up the good work.
Take Care,
Tim Verpoorten
