BBGeekcast: March 13, 2009 – Episode 55

Posted by Joe on March 13, 2009

Not a whole ton going on in the BlackBerry world this week, but we still give you your 10 minutes worth. There’s some good news for RIM in it, plus some more device rumors, which is the BBGeekcast’s bread and butter.

So click on over here to hear the BBGeekcast (9 min, 39 sec)

And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you won’t miss future episodes!

Highlights include:

Nokia couldn’t possibly sustain a 50 percent worldwide market share for much longer. They dropped about 10 percent in the fourth quarter, which is good new for RIM, which swooped in and doubled their own market share. The iPhone surely had something to do with it, but that’s just one device. RIM and Nokia have fleets of devices, many of which I think are better than the iPhone.

OTA OS upgrades? Sweet deal. It looks like AT&T will start doing this for devices with OS 4.5 and up. It might not be much — there’s isn’t much room to maneuver at this point above 4.5/4.6/4.7 — but for minor upgrades and the eventual migration to 5.0, it will come in quite handy.

Available now: BlackBerry Pearl 8230 from Telus. Available soon: Camera-less BlackBerry Curve 8350i from Nextel.
