BBGeekcast: July 18, 2008 – Episode 21

Posted by Joe on July 18, 2008

When I sat down to record this week’s edition of the podcast, I had no idea that it would be this iPhone dominated. But the pundits wanted to cause a stir, apparently, absent any real news. So we talk a lot about what people are saying, and then make fun of them. Hey, that’s always a good formula, right?

So click on over here to hear the BBGeekcast (9 min, 43 sec)

And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you won’t miss future episodes!

Highlights include:

We got to see some pics of the Thunder keyboard. I absolutely love the landscape keyboard mode. It seems so much more natural. And we got some good news on the touchscreen device. Turns out RIM is planning an October release, with a huge marketing push in September. Bad news came along with this, though…the Bold might be further delayed, this time until late August.

An informal survey showed that the iPhone isn’t eating into the BlackBerry market. Most smart people could have figured this out before the iPhone was launched. It’s just that Apple fanboys skew things for us, because they think that the iPhone is the only device someone should ever have. Yet, analysts continue to disagree. But hey, the current 3G BlackBerry models have a better battery than the iPhone 3G.

Of course, we close out the podcast off-topic: mobile banking. Maybe we’ll get in a full discussion on this next week.
