We’ve got some news about new BlackBerry devices coming out in the next few weeks and months, which is always a good conversation. Plus, Jim Balsillie spoke at length about the RIM Application Center, due out in March, and about its implications for the music industry. Color me a skeptic.

Highlights include:
What does digital music 2.0 mean? RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie talked about it in the abstract, but didn’t really hit on what it means. Given the record industry’s stance on digital technologies, I don’t think it’s possible to evolve to digital music 2.0 at this time. To me, that would mean using digital technology to its fullest, instead of holding it back and treating it like the same old thing. We’ll see what RIM means come CTIA in March.
Couple of new models that should make their way to shelves in the next month or so: Pearl flip 8230 on Telus, and the Storm 9520 on Rogers. It’s doubtful that either AT&T or T-Mobile pick up the GSM Storm, since Verizon certainly has some level of exclusivity. The CDMA Pearl flip, though, could end up with either Verizon or Sprint, or possibly both, after it debuts with Telus.
Oh, and Fido will start selling the Pearl 8100 on February 4. Only two years and five months after it was originally introduced.
