It’s the first BBGeekcast of the new year. There’s not a whole ton going on in BlackBerry land, but we dig up a few things to talk about, including some new developments from Rogers.

Highlights include:
Rogers customers will be a happy crew soon enough. They’ll be getting the Storm 9520, which is a GSM-based version of the device. It also adds Wi-Fi, a popular feature missing from the 9530. Also on tap is the Pearl 8200, which is the 3G version of the 8220. It also adds GPS to the mix. This seems like a strong offering, but with sales of the 8220 not up to expectations, one has to wonder if this is a general device issue and not just a features issue.
You can check out some soft BlackBerry article over at BlackBerry News From The Wire, including a newbie checklist and some organization and productivity applications.
If you want the BlackBerry Pearl for $20 and want Verizon as your carrier, you’ll have the opportunity. All it takes is the discipline to mail in a rebate form and the commitment to sign a two-year contract.
Finally, we knew it was coming, but the SlingPlayer is now available in beta for BlackBerry. Check it out if you want the power of live TV on your BlackBerry.
