There are certain events that signal the nearing of a BlackBerry release. One of them is when a device hits eBay, which the BlackBerry Tour 2 (Essex) did this past week. The timeline is a bit strange this time around, though, which is our main topic on the Geekcast this week.

Highlights include:
The device went for over $1,300. Who pays that much for a pre-production device? Better question: did Kevin from CrackBerry have anything to do with it this time? It’s doubtful, really. He’s had an easy time getting his hands on pre-production models ever since he bought the BB 9000 off eBay a year and a half ago, so it’s probably some other crazy BlackBerry geek.
The other prominent topic: themes in BlackBerry App World. I’m not sure why they didn’t do this from the start, but there had to be a reason. Now it’s there, and combined with BlackBerry Theme Studio, means we’re going to have tons and tons of themes to choose from. It’s also going to change the market for premium themes. Only the very best will still earn dollars. Users can now create second-tier themes, or find them for free.
