We’re already in mid-August, and things are starting to slow down news-wise. People are on vacation, so we can expect a slight decrease in rumor output. Still, we’ve got some updates on the BlackBerry Onyx, including a new model number and some info on where it will be released.

Highlights include:
We saw the Onyx with T-Mobile branding and in AT&T’s system, so it looks like the 3G device will hit both. Since we’re seeing it connected to both now, it’s doubtful that one gets it before the other. The model number, once thought to be 9020 and thus part of the Bold family, is actually 9700. Not sure if that’s because of the optical trackpad or something else, but it’s just something to note when you’re searching around for more information.
There’s also some news on Skyfire relaunching their alpha program after a few weeks’ hiatus after an unauthorized leak. There was some clamoring in the BB blogosphere this week for some improvements to the BB browser, but why doesn’t RIM just work on a new OS and leave the browser to a third party? That would be an optimal relationship, I would think.
