Storm to hit Rogers before Christmas
There’s been plenty of talk about the Canadian carrier for the BlackBerry Storm. In fact, we discussed it in last week’s News From The Wire. At that point, we knew that both Bell and Telus would be getting it, possibly with Telus getting a head start. Remember, though, that the phone has a GSM radio for world use. It now appears that Rogers will be getting the Storm before Christmas. The boys at BlackBerryCool called up the customer service line, and came away with this. So it looks like the Storm will be riding all across Canada.

BlackBerry eyeing a touchscreen future
We talked about this on last week’s BBGeekcast, but it came in after last week’s Wire. Those crazy kids at Boy Genius Report have uncovered yet another BlackBerry rumor. The most enticing of which involves a “super-phone,” which will include 1GB of RAM, near HD-quality screen, and a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera. We learned earlier this year that RIM obtained a patent for a slider phone, and it’s possible that the new model will feature the trusty mechanical keyboard, hidden behind a touchscreen. This had to happen some time, right?

Orange UK stops selling the Bold
This isn’t good for business. This isn’t good for anyone. According to a “leaked internal memo,” the Orange has decided to pull the BlackBerry Bold from their shelves. They cite software issues, which are the same ones AT&T is trying to hammer out before releasing the device in the U.S. While we are all frustrated with AT&T’s constant delays, it looks like it might be worth it to make sure the Bold is running properly before introducing it to the masses.

BlackBerry Pearl 8220 available through T-Mobile
First thing Monday morning, we heard that the BlackBerry Pearl 8220 flip was available at T-Mobile outlets. Good news. We’ve talked plenty about the phone before, so there’s little sense rehashing it in one paragraph. $169.41 under the Bold hood
The wireless world is known for absurd mark-ups. Those $30 chargers you buy? Yeah, those cost the store a fraction of that, sometimes as low as $2 or $3. Phones, though, are a bit different. BusinessWeek examined the BlackBerry Bold, and found $169.41 worth of parts under the hood. This is compared to the iPhone 3G cost of $174.33.

Verizon taking the Storm to developers conference
If you’re headed to the BlackBerry Developers Conference in Santa Clara, California, on Octobers 21 and 22, you will get the chance to check out the Storm. Verizon will be bringing it along with them, so you’ll get an early hands-on chance.

Not only will you get to see the Storm at the Developers Conference, but you can check it out as Verizon tours the country with their touchscreen device. The schedule of events runs from October 28 through November 20. Does this mean we’ll see a release closer to Black Friday than November 4? That’s uncertain right now. It’ll start in Omaha, Nebraska, and finish up in Milwaukee. No LA and no NYC for the moment, however.

NextPimp free ringtones for your BlackBerry. Dude, this application blew me away. It’s a quick-launch icon that puts you right in the middle of NextPimp action. Not only can you easily search for and download ringtones, but you can set it as your default with one check box. I definitely give this one a thumbs up.

Storing lists on your BlackBerry. Ever walk into a bookstore and not know what you want? Used to happen to me all the time, until I started keeping my to-read list on the ol’ BlackBerry.

Save battery power with AutoStandby. Sometimes my BlackBerry sits in my pocket for hours without me touching it. If I had AutoStandby, it would go into standby mode, thereby saving me battery. Cooper gives the low-down.

SMS Eraser send secure text messages. You can’t look at this application and not think Inspector Gadget. When you send text messages through SMS Eraser, they can self-destruct either after the user has read it, or after a certain period of time. At least it won’t blow up in your face.
