Two-way sync coming for Gmail and BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on September 18, 2009

It’s the headline we’ve all been waiting for. Caught this on Berry Review, and they found it in the BlackBerry Connection Newsletter (lots of good stuff in there). In talking about the Enhanced Gmail plugin, they dropped the bomb: “two-way synchronization is expected to be implemented in the near future.” With the two-way sync and the enhanced plugin running, the debate between the Gmail plugin and IMAP/POP retrieval. I encourage woo-hoos in the comments.

I’m not super tech oriented, but wasn’t the getting gmail through BIS now close to real-time and two way? It looks to me like the app is at least a temporary step backwards. Happy to be told I’m wrong.

It’s not two way because marking an e-mail read on GMail won’t mark it as read in your blackberry.

Woo-hoo! This will be great! Since I have migrated my work e-mail to my gmail account (yes, the work e-mail is that badly run) this will be a great help. Thanks!

When is this supposed to come out? Is it to take place of the current GMAIL Plug-in?

Nice! About time RIM, really, about time. How many wasted hours marking read on my bb, after I already read the message in Gmail.

I have noticed yesterday and today that when I delete something in my gmail inbox, it will disappear from my blackberry. Not instantly, but within about 30 mins. I am using the enhanced gmail plugin with Google Apps.

Still waiting for this… the gmail app drains my battery like having a hairdryer attached and would love to be using the native message app. Is there any news?

JJ, there’s a rumor circulating that two-way Gmail sync will be in BIS 3.0, which should hit early next year.
