Well, the rumors were true. Last night, RIM announced the BlackBerry Bold, “a smartphone that makes a bold statement.” It is model No. 9000, though it sounds like RIM is going to start naming its devices, rather than going by the model number. You can check out the Bold’s website at BlackBerryBold.com. A couple of things that jump out at me after the jump.

We went over a number of things in the preliminary review, including the OS. But there are a few things that were confirmed by the press release (and possible things I just missed in the initial review).
The thing that sticks out at first is the gig of on-board memory. This was speculated, but the press release confirms it. It also has a microSD slot in a side door. It was easy enough on the 88xx models, though this is a plus or those with the Curve or other models where microSD insertion means battery removal.
The 624 MHz processor, along with WiFi and HSDPA support means that this Bold will go fast, online and off. The 482×320 resolution means the display will be beautiful.
It will be available this summer. AT&T will have an exclusive in the U.S., while Rogers will get it in Canada.
I’ll be sure to play with this thing a bit during WES and report back.
