It looks like RIM has pushed out BIS 3.1

Just three months ago, RIM rolled out BIS 3.0, though it was something of a disappointment. The main feature it was to contain, two-way Gmail sync, didn’t appear at first. Even after RIM technically rolled it out, it remains one of the more disappointing features in BlackBerry history. What’s the point of two-way sync if it only syncs back every couple of hours? In any case, around the same time we learned that BIS 3.1 was on its way, and it would contain two-way contact syncs for Yahoo! Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Alt-N MDaemon v11 over SyncML. (Link in case, like me, you have no idea what that means.) Now we’re hearing that BIS 3.1 might already be out in full force.

At BerryReview, Ronen hears from tipsters that they have a working version of the two-way Yahoo contacts sync, as you can see in the accompanying screenshot. A few commenters confirm that they’re seeing a two-way sync, though one notes that he had to removed and then re-add his Yahoo! Mail account before seeing the two-way syncing capabilities. As a few commenters also note, this appears to be working in non-US countries, so I’m not quite sure if Americans have it at this moment. Best to check for yourself.

There aren’t a ton of upgrades in BIS 3.1, but if you want to see the overview you can check it out here. It mainly deals with various contact syncs and with the change device function.
