If you’re Research In Motion, and you’re trying to compete with what some people deem the coolest phone ever, what do you do? You can try as you might to outdo that device, but you’ll need some firepower. It seems RIM is aiming to do just that, as they’re looking for someone fluent in iPhone application development. According to the job listing, the ideal candidate would be “part of a newly-created team.”
A comment on the listing, made by someone at RIM, says: “If you’re a pro at developing software for MAC’s then this it the position for you. It’s a new development team at RIM, so you’re getting in a the very early stages when joining this team.”
Still the intention isn’t exactly clear. Are they looking for someone who can help them build a better iPhone? Or someone who can make the BlackBerry more Mac-friendly? Either way, it’s interesting to see RIM branch out like this.

You’re right, the BlackBerry is not the iPhone

I’m inclined to believe that RIM may actually start to take Apple more seriously as a Desktop platform now that the market share is on a steady incline. There’s no more excuse about not using Macs in the Enterprise, so why shouldn’t Mac users benefit from the goodness that is Blackberry security and push email as well? I know plenty of people who prefer the BB to an iPhone but chose the latter because RIM chose not to create software for OS X.
