Ever since BIS exploded in popularity, many Mac users made the decision to pick up a BlackBerry. The only thing standing in the way of them and BlackBerry bliss: the lack of Desktop Manager. There are programs like PocketMac and MissingSync which can take care of some tasks, but they don’t tough Desktop Manager in terms of doing everything Berry. That’s all about to change. The Official BlackBerry Blog has revealed RIM’s plans to release Desktop Manager for Mac in September. I’m not normally one for extreme fanboyishness or exclamation points, but for this I’ll make an exception. Finally!!1!!11!!!

It seems like most BlackBerry guides focus on either device-centric issues, or else on issues which can only be addressed on a PC. This is fair to an extent, in that among the general population and among the BlackBerry community PC users outnumber Mac users. I always wonder what the ratio is among the geekier BlackBerry users. In any case, we’re throwing Mac users a bone today by introducing a guide on how to transfer files between your Mac and BlackBerry via Bluetooth. It’s a quick, painless method which can get many of your songs, ringtones, and even videos onto your BlackBerry without having to use sync software like PocketMac, or even to connect to your Mac with a wire.

Forever the shunned by Research in Motion, Mac users got a bit of good news late last week as the company announced the availability of BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac. The company plans to launch Mac software throughout 2009, and have seemingly got a head start on their roll outs. This is a “preview” version, meaning there might be and probably are a number of bugs. Still, it’s a step forward for those of us who buy into Apple’s ritzy marketing schemes.

As a Mac user, I’m often left on the short end of the BlackBerry stick. I’m sure my compatriots agree. It takes just a bit of ingenuity, though, to get things working decently on the less favored platform. Today, we’re going to discuss how to connect your BlackBerry to your Mac, via Bluetooth, for tethering purposes. The video will go after the jump. Just a word of warning, especially for Verizon customers. If you don’t have tethering capabilities, this won’t work. Or at least it didn’t work for me. Make sure you’re set up with your carrier before you go through this setup process.

With the announcement of the 3G iPhone yesterday, people were quick to wonder whether the iPhone would finally beat out the BlackBerry. It’s an old argument, and one that I’m not sure picked up legitimate steam with the announcement. We’ve known about the 3G iPhone for quite some time now, and people have long been making comparisons between it and the BlackBerry Bold. As I’ve said before, I’m quite sure that neither device will be “killed” by the other.

One of the greatest things about the BlackBerry is how easy it is to sync your information between your handheld and your PC. The average BlackBerry user will most likely be operating a PC at home or work and sync using the BlackBerry Desktop manager or a BES account. This is how RIM originally intended the BlackBerry to be used, and the process works flawlessly.
But what about BlackBerry owners who are part of the “other camp?” You know, the ones who forgo the popular option and choose to use the Mac as their primary computer?
It wasn’t always easy or even possible. In fact, many Mac users spurned the BlackBerry because of this. Thankfully, this issue has been resolved. Mac users, rejoice! You can have your Mac and your BlackBerry, too.
