Fact: 99.5 percent of BlackBerry owners use the straight forward, regular ringtone for incoming calls. OK, so maybe I made that up. But it can’t be far from reality. Every time I hear the sound of a phone ringing, I immediately check my BlackBerry. Usually it’s someone else’s. For the longest time I advocated this as the only acceptable BlackBerry ringtone — the only one that won’t embarrass in some way. But after going to countless conferences and spending time in Manhattan crowds, I’ve backed off this position. Custom ringtones can be refreshing. I gave it a whirl this week, and I have to say I came away impressed.
