Geek Review: Swapping my BlackBerry Holster for a BlackBerry Skin Case
Posted by Cooper on May 15, 2008
So I have this BlackBerry that I keep with me always. I mean really, it never leaves my hip holster unless I am doing “the move”. Even then, it is only out of its snug little home for a few short seconds.
The holster itself has become an extension of my body at this point and is attached to me at all times. Yes. I actually use the drawstring in my pijama bottoms so that the BlackBerry does not cause me to expose myself to my neighbors again while doing the morning newspaper stroll. Yes you read that right, I said “again” (I am sorry Mrs. Seigle and thanks a million for not phoning the authorities — you are a VERY understanding lady).

I’m going to share a dirty secret with you. While I’m driving, I’m always tempted to check my BlackBerry. Who knows what could be lurking in my Inbox? I’m sure many have similar temptations. And I’ll be that many of you (yeah, me too) sneak a peak here and there — usually at red lights and other “safe” areas. Still, even if you can check your email, there’s really nothing you can do with it until you’re stopped. To aid the addicted, companies are starting to offer various voice to text and text to voice applications. Today, we’re taking a look at Voice on the Go.

A while back, I linked up to a PocketGPSWorld review of the Carcomm Mobile PDA Cradle. I have since gotten my hands on one, so I can share a bit more personal an experience. It’s a really neat device: A mounting system for your car, complete with a gooseneck setup and swivel capabilities. It’s pretty straightforward, actually, so I’ll get right to the review — and pictures, of course.

Like everything else in life, the BlackBerry isn’t perfect. Take the fingerprint smudges on your screen for instance. For CrackBerry addicts, it’s a source of constant annoyance. Not only are those greasy swirls unsightly, but it’s embarrassing to hand it to a friend in such a condition.

If you are anything like me, you just give the screen a quick wipe on your pant leg or pull the classic “shirt cuff un-scuff” move. In my experience, this has always fulfilled my screen-cleaning needs. I have never once needed to go out and purchase a special screen protector or screen cleaner. My screen is just going to get smudged up in the next ten minutes anyway, and my shirt cuff and pant legs are just a swipe away.
