Celio Redfly turns your BlackBerry into a netbook

Posted by Joe on November 4, 2009

How do you connect to the Internet when you’re on the road? Do you have a netbook? Do you tether your BlackBerry to your laptop? Or do you just use your BlackBerry as a mini computer? Those seem to be the three main options, but a device from Celio adds another option. The Redfly Mobile Companion looks like a laptop, but really it’s just a device that allows you to access your smartphone through a computer interface. The device has been around for a bit, compatible with Windows Mobile phones. Yesterday, however, they added BlackBerry support. Ed Hardy of Brighthand.com has a quick review.

Geek Review: Samsung SBH600 Bluetooth Stereo Headset

Posted by Cooper on November 3, 2009

A few weeks ago I wrote a review of the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. While my experience with that particular headset was decent, it was not as functional as I had hoped for and the lanyard style of transport was awkward at best.

It is for that reason that I decided to continue my quest for the best set of Bluetooth headphones for your BlackBerry. There are many types available so you can expect to see a few more headset reviews coming down the line from BBGeeks.

This time I have decided to check out the Samsung SBH600 Stereo Headset.

Check out the new Commuter cases from OtterBox

Posted by Joe on September 22, 2009

When I think OtterBox, it’s usually of their Defender series cases. These behemoths can protect your BlackBerry like no other case, but it’s not without a cost. Bulk can be a virtue in terms of protection, but a vice in terms of aesthetics and functionality. One friend commented, upon seeing the Defender case on my 8830, that it looked like I should be scanning packages for UPS. It’s clear that the Defender cases aren’t for everyone. OtterBox then released the Impact series, which some deemed not protective enough. So where’s the happy medium? With the Commuter series, a new line of cases which provide ample protection without all the bulk of a Defender case.

Geek Review: Freedom Mobile Slim Keypad

Posted by Cooper on September 2, 2009

When I first saw the Freedom Mobile Slim Keypad in our store I thought to myself – “Why would a BlackBerry owner need a separate keypad for their device?” After all, the majority of the BlackBerry devices available today have superb full qwerty keypads that are extremely easy to use (even for those of us with larger thumbs).

I then thought of people with a Pearl and how typing out long strings of text is sometimes problematic on the SureType keypad setup. Could this be the answer for Pearl owners who do not wish to have a larger device but require a full keyboard on occasion? The answer is yes – it very well may be.

Dorky but cool: Bluetooth BlackBerry watch

Posted by Joe on August 14, 2009

I’m not much of a watch-wearer. It’s a physique thing. My forearms are big, but they taper down into wrists I can wrap my fingers around. It’s not normal, and it makes any wrist-wear look awkward. Yet I very well could wear a watch if it connected via Bluetooth to my BlackBerry. Think about it. You could just glance at your watch to see if you have any new emails, SMS, BBMs, or anything of the sort. I caught this on the BlackBerry OS forum, but apparently Gadgets News wrote it up back in May. How did I miss this one? A picture of the sweet thing after the jump.

The sexiest BlackBerry Skins Available

Posted by Cooper on August 10, 2009

When it comes to skins for the BlackBerry, one could be talking about a number of things. One might reference a BlackBerry skin when they are talking about the various silicone gel cases that are available to protect your Storm from bumps and bruises. On the other hand, one might also reference BlackBerry skins when referring to the copious amounts of vinyl decals that can be applied to your BlackBerry without voiding your warranty.

In either instance, the discussion is usually directed towards customization of your BlackBerry so that it broadcasts your unique style to the world. Nobody wants their BlackBerry to look exactly like the one the person next to them is holding.

Transferring MP3 voice notes from your BlackBerry to your computer

Posted by Joe on August 5, 2009

One thing I’ve been using my BlackBerry for more and more is taking notes. I used to carry around a small pad and paper, but I’d either forget to bring it with me, or else lose it somewhere along the way. With the BlackBerry, it’s with me all the time. Plus, I’m not going to lose the thing — as easily as a pad and paper, at least. While I do use the MemoPad application frequently for chronicling such things as my to read list, I also leave myself a number of voice notes. While I listen to them right on my BlackBerry, I can understand why people would want to transfer those notes to their computers as MP3 files. That’s what we’re going over today.

Geek Review: MOTOROKR EQ5 Ultra Portable Wireless Speakers

Posted by Cooper on August 4, 2009

Oh yeah! Another UPS package has just been dropped off at my desk and I am pumped to tear it open and see what is inside. Between you and me, I already know what it is but it still feels like it’s my birthday or some other special give Cooper a gift day.

A couple weeks ago I reviewed an awesome set of Bluetooth speakers from BlueAnt called the M1. I was skeptical about the quality and performance of these kinds of accessories because lets face it – for less than $200 what kind of quality can you really expect. As it turns out, BlueAnt managed to create a nice little speaker setup that has proven to be quite handy around my house, work and casual outdoor gatherings.
