It’s rather noisy down here outside the expo hall. It opens at 11:00 Pacific time, so we’ll be posting updates sometime after that. For now, here are a couple of BlackBerry notes:

We’ve heard a ton about the rumored 9000 series since last November, when our pals at Boy Genius Report found out that it is in the offing. However, we’ve seen plenty of mixed signals since then, and haven’t really been able to pin anything down. The latest word was that we were looking at a six-month exclusive with AT&T, with a launch in May/June. However, that latest word has seemingly changed. BGR is saying — as a rumor — that we might be looking at a July/August release. This is not going to make the BlackBerry community too happy.

Just a rumor I thought I’d direct you to, courtesy of our friends at The Boy Genius Report. They’re saying that “OS 4.6.0 has un-officially graduated from internal development at RIM and has been moved on into the official builds and carrier certification process.” So this could mean they’re readying it for launch with a new line of BlackBerrys. Or it might not. That’s why it’s a rumor. But in any case, BGR does note that RIM might be facing a typical issue related to newer technologies: Battery drain. This is because of Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G capabilities. However, the move of 4.6.0 to the carrier certification process might indicate that they’ve figured a workaround. Of course, all this means is that we’re just going to have to wait around a bit longer.

The good news: The BlackBerry 9000 does offer some nice upgrades over the 8800. The bad news: It’s not touch screen. Or at least that’s according to rumors. The screen will stay the same, though the keyboard will get bigger buttons. The trackball stays, and the device is a bit thinner than its ancestors. According to a leak, most employees at Research In Motion don’t have knowledge of a touchscreen in use. After the jump, we’ll get you a leaked picture of the new model.

We love the guys at Boy Genius Report. They’ve got some insider source or another, and are always giving us juicy tidbits before they’re announced by the companies — usually RIM and AT&T. Anyway, they have some specs on the rumored BlackBerry 9100. Lots of technical stuff, but that’s what’s available at this point.

Way back when, we found a report that the BlackBerry 9000 series was nearing a release. Since then, the Internet has exploded with rumors positioning themselves as facts. And the originators of the rumor, the fine folks at Boy Genius Report, are sick of all of this false information. They’re even calling many reports “a little misguided.”

Okay, so none of these are actual features that will be included when the BlackBerry 9000 series rolls out (they’ve already started registering the domain names). But our boy Russell Shaw at ZDNet lists a few features he’d like to see, or see improved, in the next line of BlackBerrys. Our personal favorite:

We love stories like this. We like them more when they come with low-res, Photoshopped, watermarked pictures. Anyway, it appears that RIM is ready to release another generation of BlackBerry sometime in early 2008 (though we’ll surely see a production delay or two before all is said and done). Now, we’re sure you want the juiciness of it all. Fine. Here goes. It’s 3G, and has a 3G radio (::commence salivating::). And it’s HSDPA! Processor? We’re talking 600 MHz (::drooling on keyboard::). So while none of this is confirmed, we’ll be dreaming of the 9000 for at least a couple of weeks.
