MailStreet BlackBerry Exchange Hosting

Editorial Rating

Overview:

MailStreet, a division of Apptix Inc., was founded in 2001 and offers its customers hosting and Exchange services. It’s located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA, and cites that 6,000 organizations depend on it for reliable service. EOutlook, another mail Exchange service in the Apptix, merged with MailStreet on January 5, 2006.

Pros:
The company offers a comprehensive plan that includes many features, including free set-up, free VPN connectivity, a free 30-day trial, free DNS hosting, unlimited email aliases, free use of Outlook 2003/2007 or Entourage for Macs, shared tasks, calendars, 1 MB public folder, and more. The prices aren’t bad, either.

Cons: They don’t list prices for 20 mailboxes or more on the Website, although you can ask for a quote. As well, anti-spam is extra per month, as well as recovering a deleted mailbox. You can download Outlook and Entourage for free, but you will have to pay to have the CD delivered to you by UPS.

We used to be customers of Mi8 which was acquired by Apptix (also the owner of Mailstreet).
After having been a customer of Mi8 for over 8 years, we have had nothing but trouble with Apptix/Mailstreet:

1. We have constant interruptions of our service. We have at least issues every single month with activesync not working, the exchange server not working, or something like it. CONSTANTLY THE SERVICE IS NOT WORKING!

2. Apptix will sell you more service than they can actually provide. We have one very heavy exchange user with multiple folders and thousands of items in his mailbox. Although Apptix gladly charges you for multiple GB of space for mailboxes, they cannot actually provide that service! THEY CHARGE FOR SERVICE THAT THEY CANNOT OR WILL NOT PROVIDE! And when we asked for a discount in pricing, since they are clearly charging us for service that they are unable or unwilling to provide, customer service gets rude, which brings me to my next point ...

3.. Customer service is just rude. They will not help you with issues and the standard answer seems to be that nothing seems to be wrong on their end and that they will get back to you ... which happens hours later when they admit that there was some issue on their server.

4. Pricing. Apptix is just plain more expensive than any other exchange provider. They have hidden fees and charges for everything and customer service will attempt to charge you for technical support, even if the issue is on their side! And forget about ever getting a discount, if you complain about interruptions to service. We would gladly pay their higher prices if it meant that our emails "just worked" without anybody having to worry about or troubleshoot it.

Verdict: STAY AWAY!

MailStreet is unable to provide AntiSpam solutions to customers running split domains (i.e. customers hosting only a portion of their email with MailStreet). In fact, you need to point your MX records to a completely different third-party provider in order to get any SPAM protection.

My company has a few people who require full exchange and mobile access, but the rest of my employees can use a regular IMAP account. MailStreet can't and won't offer a different SPAM solution for clients like myself. They are losing me as a client as a result.

I have been with Mailstreet for a couple of years. I was a Mailstreet Reseller as well. all of this changed after Mailstreet was acquired by Apptix. Customer Service has been NON-EXISTENT since Apptix came into the picture. I have since left Mailstreet and am now with another Exchange provider.

I left based on my 2 hour discussion with their director [redacted] who seemed to be CLUELESS on how his department functioned and basic info about the environment. He was unable to explain the escalation policy as I wanted nothing to do with Support and could not tell me what my webmail URL was. So I ask [redacted] how do you expect to run a Support department if you dont even know the BASIC info. Stay away from APPTIX. APPTIX same people you talk to is a waste a money and time. How these companies continue to survive is beyond me..tell me APPTIX how do you do it..or are you the spawn of evil?
