Almost a year ago, Google introduced Google Sync. This allowed for a wireless reconciliation of your BlackBerry and Google calendars. Like many other Google/Berry users, I’ve found this to be an essential BlackBerry application. This, combined with the awesome IMAP capabilities on Gmail, means that I can sync most of my Google suite with my Berry. Except, of course, for contacts. We knew this day was coming, and it’s finally here. You can now sync your Google contacts with your BlackBerry. Freaking. Awesome.

One of the great things about having a multimedia-capable BlackBerry is seeing where all these functions come into play. Some of those things many of us take for granted. As we learned on Saturday in the New York Times, President-elect Barack Obama faces the possibility of losing his BlackBerry privileges once he takes office on January 20. Obama has been pictured several times with Berry in hand, and it seems he’s as connected to the device as many in our BlackBerry community. You might even say that he’s addicted to it. Yet I don’t think he’ll have much trouble giving it up if he’s instructed to. Is there a person in this country who wouldn’t turn in a BlackBerry to become President of the United States? This got me thinking: Under what circumstances would you give up your BlackBerry?

A while back, we talked about SnapScreen, a premium application which can take screenshots of your BlackBerry. This is an alternative to the awesome BBScreenShooter, which is available only to PC users running the JavaLoader application. For us Mac users, SnapScreen looks like the best deal. If you’re in the market for a free application for your screenshots, though, you can check out CaptureIt, available from TechMogul Industries (hat tip to Ronen).

We cut things short today. Why? Because all the news revolves around the BlackBerry Storm, and we’ve talked about this ad nauseum for the past, oh, three months. Ronen at BerryReview points us to a neat little application for your BlackBerry: BerrySpeedy. It is an application from DeltaTech which measures the connection speed of your BlackBerry. So now you can know if yours runs faster than your buddies in the next town over. Using BIS-B at 500K, Ronen hit 8 KB/S with a BlackBerry Bold in New York City. Thomas at Berry Reporter got 13 KB/S with his T-Mobile Curve and 20 KB/S with his Bold. No idea where he got those speeds, though. Find out mind after the jump.
