You might remember Jeremy Schoemaker from his guest appearance on the BBGeekcast. On it, he mentioned a site called NextPimp, which provides real MP3 ringtones for free. For BlackBerry, the site just got better. Jeremy pointed my attention to the NextPimp BlackBerry OTA quicklaunch application (that’s the download link), which allows you to browse the site from your ‘Berry. I gave it a whirl this week, and I have to say I came away impressed.

So you have downloaded some themes for you Curve or your Pearl and you have loved the variations of display made available to you by folks like CherriChiodo, Blueroom and GadgetBean. They have all truly stepped up to the plate when it comes to designing functional alternatives to the themes that ship default with your device. The problem you face now is that you have just upgraded your device to the new BlackBerry Bold and none of the themes you have grown to love are available yet. So what do you do?

This bit of advice might come in handy when trying to procure a BlackBerry Storm. I bought my 8830, using my upgrade from Verizon, back in January. We had no idea the Storm was even in the works, and only had an idea that we’d soon be getting a CDMA Curve. A few months pass, and there is one model of BlackBerry on Verizon I’d rather have, and one on the way. Damn.
Last Saturday, my father called and said, out of nowhere, “I’m going to buy a BlackBerry today. Which should I get?” He’s not technologically illiterate, not by a longshot. Yet I know he needed the most basic model. I started to say 8830 when a lightbulb went off in my head.

Saying that no one likes spam is like saying that no one likes higher gas prices. Duh. Problem is, many email servers — especially those hosted by ISPs — have poor spam filters. This means not only are you bothered on your desktop, but you’re also bothered if that email address gets pushed to your BlackBerry. So how can you stop it?
Well, you could set up some filters in your BIS account. That, however, might not be sufficient. Spam comes in many forms, and it’s tough to pick out addresses and keywords which can catch everything. You know what has a really good spam filter? Gmail. We’ve talked about Gmail and BlackBerry before. Now let’s look at how you can use it to filter your spam.

A few weeks ago, a friend approached me with a BlackBerry problem. He had received an email with a PDF attachment, but was having trouble reading it. He could zoom in and enhance the image, but couldn’t scroll around once enhanced. So he’d have to enhance one section, back out, then another, repeat until finished. If you’ve ever been in that predicament, it’s no fun. BlackBerry News points us to a solution. It’s called BeamReader, and it will allow you to view your on-device and email attachment PDF files. Best of all, it’s free.

Unfortunately, OS 4.5 isn’t widespread yet in the states. It’ll come, I’m sure, but for now many are using upgrades from foreign carriers which have already released the beast. For these people, Elecite has some new themes, as we find out via our buddies at Phones Review. They are: Distinct, Scion, and Scortched. They’re definitely killer themes, and I only wish I had a 4.5 device to try them on. We’ll set you up with some eye candy after the jump.

Most everyone I know uses the consolidated message application to deal with their emails and SMS. While each email address comes with its own icon, it seems more expedient to hide those icons and just use the consolidated version. However, what if you want to keep email and SMS separate? I’ve seen this question posed quite a few times, so I thought I’d give it a whirl here. We’ll get to business after the jump.
