If you are new here, you may want to subscribe to my feed or subscribe to us on Twitter!

I’m going to share a dirty secret with you. While I’m driving, I’m always tempted to check my BlackBerry. Who knows what could be lurking in my Inbox? I’m sure many have similar temptations. And I’ll be that many of you (yeah, me too) sneak a peak here and there — usually at red lights and other “safe” areas. Still, even if you can check your email, there’s really nothing you can do with it until you’re stopped. To aid the addicted, companies are starting to offer various voice to text and text to voice applications. Today, we’re taking a look at Voice on the Go.

BlackBerry 8110 hits AT&T

Posted by Joe on April 23, 2008

So today marks AT&T’s release of the Blackberry Pearl 8110. “Wait a minute,” you might say. Didn’t AT&T just release a new Pearl last month? Indeed they did. So what’ with the new model? If you check out BlackBerry’s nifty compare function, you’ll see that the 8110 adds GPS, but subtracts WiFi. You’d think that they’d just put the two together, a la the 8820. Alas, we will have to wait for such a SureType device.

Microsoft launches Tellme application for BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on April 23, 2008

We’re seeing a lot of voice-controlled applications hit the market for BlackBerry. While Yahoo! is making a bid with oneSearch, Microsoft wants a piece of the market, too. So they’ve launched their Tellme service for BlackBerry. So if you’re looking for a business location, traffic info, movie times, or just looking to get un-lost, you can talk to your device and have it spit out information. It even integrates with your GPS to give you location-specific results.

Get a free BlackBerry Curve from AT&T

Posted by Joe on April 22, 2008

Okay, so it’s not cool like the new CDMA Curve. But if you sign up for AT&T service, or extend your contract with them, you can get a free refurbished BlackBerry Curve 8310s. It’s got GPS, Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and access to AT&T Mobile Music. If you don’t mind refurb models, it’s tough to beat the deal. I’m fairly certain that we won’t see another version of the Curve, or at least anytime soon, so if you want to nab one, now is the time if you’re with AT&T. This promotion runs through this Thursday, April 24. This is an online promotion, so head to AT&T’s website if you’re interested.

If you want an iPhone, why do you have a BlackBerry?

Posted by Joe on April 21, 2008

Do you know what the best selling themes are at the BBGeeks Store? I’ll give you a hint: They copy the theme of another popular PDA. Yeah, I’m talking about iPhone themes. It just puzzles me that someone with a BlackBerry would spend money to make their phone look like an iPhone. Is the interface really that cool? Even without touchscreen? You know, because I thought the entire reason for having those block icons was so you could actually press them. Alas, no such advantage exists on your BlackBerry. So what’s the point?

Alltel Curve due May 1

Posted by Joe on April 21, 2008

On Thursday, we heard that there was no ETA on the Alltel Curve. So you can imagine my surprise to see this announcement pop up at 8:30 this morning. Not only is Alltel getting the Curve, but they might beat Sprint to the party. It’s out on the first of May, and you can nab it for $229.99 after a $100 mail in rebate and the signing of a two-year contract. You can actually pre-order it today if you head to shopalltel.com/curve.

No Curve for Sprint yet

Posted by Joe on April 21, 2008

So the BlackBerry Curve 8330 was supposed to have been released through Sprint at this point. But it hasn’t. Which, of course, is causing all kinds of concern. This is even moreso if you were one of the unlucky few who were told by a Sprint rep that you’d have to wait until June 1. According to Engadget Mobile, Sprint still plans to launch the device this month. I’m guessing that means not today, so in that case they have nine days to get it out. Call me a skeptic, but I’m not sure this happens. I wouldn’t at all be surprised if we do, in fact, have to wait until June 1 for the Sprint Curve.
