Verizon announces release of Curve

Posted by Joe on March 31, 2008

It looks like you might be new to our site. You may want to subscribe to the feed or follow us on Twitter.

We’re getting ready to head down to the Convention Center at CTIA 2008. But before we headed out, I was going to share something with you. Yesterday, I got my eyes on the Verizon Wireless rebate form for the second quarter. And guess what those pretty little eyes saw? Yep — that the Curve 8330 was on the list. Great! I thought. Something to share with the readers. Of course, as I went to bed last night, I saw the red light on my BlackBerry flashing. What it is? A press release saying that Verizon is releasing the Curve. So now you don’t have to take my word for it.

Podcasts to come. You can bet on that.

9000 series in August?

Posted by Joe on March 28, 2008

We’ve heard a ton about the rumored 9000 series since last November, when our pals at Boy Genius Report found out that it is in the offing. However, we’ve seen plenty of mixed signals since then, and haven’t really been able to pin anything down. The latest word was that we were looking at a six-month exclusive with AT&T, with a launch in May/June. However, that latest word has seemingly changed. BGR is saying — as a rumor — that we might be looking at a July/August release. This is not going to make the BlackBerry community too happy.

Complete Guide to TwitterBerry, the BlackBerry app for Twitter

Posted by Rae on March 28, 2008

I totally admit to being a Twitteraholic. Heck, even the BBGeeks site itself is on Twitter. So when I found TwitterBerry, you better believe the first thing I did was download and install it. Below you’ll find an overview/guide of the new Twitter application for the BlackBerry which was made by Orangatame Software.

As always, before you download the application, you can take a look at a video preview we made of the application so you can “try before you buy” without having to download it yourself (and as usual, the application is free, but you get what we mean):

BlackLine GPS launches location-based social network

Posted by Joe on March 27, 2008

Okays, so you might have the BlackBerry Facebook app, but can it tell you where you friends are? No! You’d have to ::gasp:: call or text them to find that out. Well, not anymore. BlackLine GPS has launched Blip, a geo-location social networking application. It’s free for anyone who has a compatible BlackBerry with active GPS. Once you add your BlackBerry’d friends, you can see where they are, so long as their device is armed. My favorite feature (in a very, very sarcastic manner): The ability to view the speed at which your friend is moving. If a train leaves California…

India to RIM: Allow us to spy, or you’re toast

Posted by Joe on March 26, 2008

The telecommunications industry in India has really been taking off over the past few years. In fact, they’re considered “the world’s fastest expanding wireless market.” They’ve got over 200 million subscribers now, which rivals the numbers of the U.S. (though there are plenty more people in India than in the U.S.) Those numbers are swelling by about eight million per month. However, it isn’t all going smoothly. The country’s government has demanded that it be allowed to monitor content being transmitted through the devices. Failure to comply would put a stop to BlackBerry service in the country.

Unlocking your BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on March 25, 2008

Ever since the iPhone was introduced, there has been a lot said about the practice of unlocking phones. Since AT&T runs on a GSM network, and thus uses a SIM card, the phones can be unlocked — though it wasn’t easy at first. If you have a BlackBerry on the T-Mobile or AT&T network in America, you too can practice the art of unlocking.

T-Mobile adds BlackBerry 8820

Posted by Joe on March 25, 2008

Despite it’s status as the nation’s No. 4 wireless carrier, T-Mobile has steadily been atop the BlackBerry game. They’ve got the original Pearl, the 8800, and the Curve, plus the new Pearl is coming. Adding to that already impressive lineup is the BlackBerry 8820, an updated model in the 8800 family. Just what upgrades does this new model have, you ask? Well, since T-Mo is making a big push in WiFi, it only makes sense that the 8820 would have this. So that makes two BlackBerrys through T-Mo which have WiFi, with a third to be added with the Pearl 8120. This is only going to drive up the desire for the Hotspot @Home service.

Sprint ready to launch the Curve 8330

Posted by Joe on March 24, 2008

So this doesn’t look to be the hoax that was the rumor that Telus was launching the CDMA Curve. Via Boy Genius Report, which I trust in these matters, Sprint is eyeing an April 16th release for the Curve 8330. This is the release through Brightpoint, and will be available through “all other channels” (by that, I guess they mean distributors) on April 20th, which is strange, since it’s a Sunday (don’t ask how I know that off the top of my head).
