Something we didn’t know: Apparently Canada works on a different quarterly system than we do in the U.S. We’re used to quarterly reports being delivered in January, April, July, and October, the months after each quarter ends. But we got an email from Research In Motion yesterday with the company’s third quarter results, which it says is the period ending on December 1. So let’s start with the important numbers: subscribers and units shipped.

Canada not happy with South Korea’s ban on the BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on December 20, 2007

We understand the importance of the BlackBerry in the modern world, but we’d rather it not become an International Incident. It seems that the Canadian Chamber of Commerce is putting the screws to the South Korean Ministry of Information and Communication because of their practical ban on the device. The South Korean government has strict regulations on mobile phone software. Canada is not happy about this, and is saying that this could adversely affect the free trade agreement between the two countries.

Just like that, the 8120 is released

Posted by Joe on December 19, 2007

Monday — just Monday! — we were talking about T-Mobile’s February 18 release date for the Pearl 8120. So color us surprised today when we found out that you can get one of them today. We raised an eyebrow at this one, but calmed down once we realized that T-Mobile is working on finalizing a purchase of SunCom, the company offering the Pearl 8120. It’ll cost you $220 with a contract and rebates. We’re not quite sure if your SunCom contract will be absorbed by T-Mo once the final papers are signed — but we’re sure they’d be glad to take on the remaining year-plus on your contract.

How to 1-800-USE-TEXT in a phone number

Posted by Rae on December 18, 2007

First and foremost, we have absolutely no idea if that’s a real phone number, but if it is, we take no responsibility for anything that results from calling it, so if you attempt to do so, you are dialing at your own risk.

Yesterday, we got the following frantic (okay, maybe “frantic” is too strong a word, but an expletive was in the subject line of the email, so the question asker was obviously a little flustered) email:

Posted by Joe on December 18, 2007

First it’s the first ever BlackBerry Store, now it’s the U.S. headquarters. Research In Motion announced that they will set up shop in Irving, Texas, for their home base in the States. This is good news for the area, as it is projected that 1,000 jobs will be created. Not only that, but it could create business for other local telecommunications companies, according to Dallas-area economic and technical experts.

Syncing your BlackBerry with both a Mac and PC

Posted by Cooper on December 18, 2007

One of the greatest things about the BlackBerry is how easy it is to sync your information between your handheld and your PC. The average BlackBerry user will most likely be operating a PC at home or work and sync using the BlackBerry Desktop manager or a BES account. This is how RIM originally intended the BlackBerry to be used, and the process works flawlessly.

But what about BlackBerry owners who are part of the “other camp?” You know, the ones who forgo the popular option and choose to use the Mac as their primary computer?

It wasn’t always easy or even possible. In fact, many Mac users spurned the BlackBerry because of this. Thankfully, this issue has been resolved. Mac users, rejoice! You can have your Mac and your BlackBerry, too.

T-Mobile Pearl 8120 coming soon!

Posted by Joe on December 17, 2007

T-Mobile is really into the BlackBerry Pearl. After all, they have the device in four different colors: Black, Gold, Ruby, and Sapphire. However, those are the 8100 models. While they might remain an excellent gift for the holidays, they stand to be replaced in the very near future. Reports surfacing this weekend say that the 8120 will be available as soon as February 18. Further, the reports say that the devices are ready now, but T-Mo already made the holiday push for their current line of Pearls.

After we did our in-depth walk through of the Yahoo Go! application for mobile phones (including our beloved BlackBerry), we saw our comrades over at RIMarkable complaining that the application wasn’t working with the BlackBerry 8130:

Facebook “is” for you and BB

Posted by Rae on December 14, 2007

So, yesterday we mentioned how we were a bit robbed of the “remove the is from the Facebook status” victory because the Facebook Blackberry software application was still forcing the “is” in the status updates.

Well, when I was looking at my status updates screen from the app last night, I realized suddenly that a lot of my friends seemed to be illiterate:
