House things seem to be a practice of the past, but that doesn’t mean that doctors aren’t traveling anymore. Many physicians nowadays have BlackBerrys, but many have to carry a separate device to access clinical information, such as a drug and formulatory reference guide. Thanks to Epocrates Rx, docs can now get this information right on their BlackBerry.

Pearl 2 to hit Sprint this month

Posted by Joe on November 12, 2007

Verizon just began shipping the CDMA Pearl earlier this month. Now it’s Sprint’s turn. The Nation’s No. 3 cell provider will launch the Pearl 8130 — the Pearl 2 — on November 23. Black Friday. Though many stores have gone through measures to start the deals earlier so their stores aren’t completely swamped on that fateful day. Sprint stores will be, though.

RIM sues LG over name similarity

Posted by Joe on November 9, 2007

This all started in February, when RIM sued Samsung over their BlackJack PDA. They claimed that the name was far too similar to BlackBerry. We’re not exactly sure about that (Black Jack is, after all, a popular card game). But we are sure that the BlackJack looks exactly like a BlackBerry, to the point where we once asked someone, “oh, which model of BlackBerry is that?” That case eventually settled. Now RIM is targeting LG for their new line of PDA, the Black Label.

Facebook application crashes BlackBerrys?

Posted by Joe on November 7, 2007

Scouring the web, we came across this anecdote of someone who had their BlackBerry crash after a week of using the Facebook application. The problem lies right in the application’s convenience. Messages and alerts from Facebook are sent to your phone, but instead of being hosted on Facebook’s servers, they are stored locally on your phone. For this user, it caused his email, call history, and Facebook messages to be deleted.

So what about you? Any issues among the BlackBerry faithful regarding the new application?

Posted by Joe on November 6, 2007

With BB OS v4.3, there were bound to be some minor upgrades to your BlackBerry’s functionality. Well, we found one. Okay, so Crackberry found it, and we’re just latching on. Anyway, OS 4.3.1 will allow you to record video as well as still images if you’re lucky enough to have a BlackBerry with a camera. So this means you, Curve users.

BlackBerry gets better for small business

Posted by Joe on November 5, 2007

If a small business wanted to go BlackBerry, their choices were limited. They could either outsource the job, or buy separate server computers. The latter wasn’t too attractive, since the servers would cost too much for the return they’d provide. Outsourcing has its own set of problems, especially if the company already handles their e-mail in-house. Research In Motion is giving them a third option, though. Now small businesses can purchase software that integrates BlackBerrys with corporate e-mail systems.
