Alltel joins the CDMA Pearl crew

Alltel can’t afford to fall behind national carriers Verizon and Sprint. So when Research In Motion announced the CDMA Pearl, you figured Alltel would jump in at some point. Well, this morning they announced that they have, and that they’ll make the device available for the holiday season.

Leaked: BlackBerry Pearl with WiFi

Awwww, yeah. So it appears that the FCC has leaked Research In Motion plans to launch a Pearl complete with WiFi capabilities. This is a GSM model, so for now we’re talking availability on T-Mobile and AT&T. But it’s a significant upgrade for those who use their Pearl mainly for Internet access. It helps doubly on T-Mobile, where we figure it will be compatible with HotSpot @ Home. That is, if it ends up being available through them.

Pay-as-you-go BlackBerry?

Most BlackBerry users have the device for business purposes. Many of them have company-issued devices, thus don’t have to worry about method of payment. But there is an increasing demand for BlackBerrys for both small businesses and personal use. Both of these entities don’t have the vast resources of big and medium businesses, yet are stuck with the same payment plan options. In the UK, though, things are becoming a bit different. Sure Mobile has launched a pay-as-you-go BlackBerry plan, seemingly targeting the two aforementioned demographics.

AT&T aids USPS with BlackBerrys

Apparently, the USPS is feeling some heat, as competitors like UPS, DHL, and FedEx cut into their government-funded business. Part of the solution: better technology. And so AT&T has delivered 5,400 BlackBerrys to the post office. They’re of the 8800 and 8820 models, and will be distributed to IT staff, execs, and high-level managers.
