The curve lands at AT&T
Posted by Joe on October 17, 2007

We’ve already talked about the launch of the BlackBerry 8310 — the Curve. Today it drops in at the AT&T online store. So you can grab your BlackBerry — complete with 2 megapixel camera among other neat features — for $450 if you’re already an AT&T subscriber. Knock $150 off that price if you’re willing to sign your life away for two years. On top of that your data plan will start at $30 more than your voice plan. That’s just for BlackBerry Messaging, though. Expect to drop a bit more on full web access.

BlackBerry goes to China
Posted by Joe on October 16, 2007
We’ve really seen mobile services take off in countries of lesser economies lately. The likes of Bulgaria, Hungary, and India are adapting well to the integration of mobile phones, and we expect that trend will continue throughout the rest of the decade. When talking about lesser economies, it’s easy to forget China. After all, their economy just started booming, so that’s all people talk about nowadays. But they’ve made significant leaps in technology over the past few years, and now they’re making strides in the mobile world. Their newest development: A deal with RIM to provide mobile e-mail access.

Apparently, BlackBerry users never heard of “phantom ringtone”
Posted by Joe on October 11, 2007
How in the world did this become an AP story? Apparently, BlackBerry users are in awe of the “phantom ringtone” phenomenon. Hi, guys. Welcome to the 21st century. I’m Joe, and I’ve had a cell phone since 2000. Guess what? I’ve been hearing my ringtone and feeling my phone vibrate since, well, 2000. Yet BlackBerry users are marveling at this now?

Sprint in on the Pearl action
Posted by Joe on October 11, 2007
We figured this was coming, but we were waiting for the official announcement: The CDMA BlackBerry Pearl will be released through Sprint next month. We’ve already discussed the specs, so this just serves as the announcement that Sprint customers can get one.

Sick of text-only e-mails?
Posted by Joe on October 9, 2007
Personally, we’re fans of the text-only e-mails you get on your BlackBerry. It’s simple, it’s effective, and the load time is minimal. However, there is a new wave of non-business BlackBerry users, and we can understand their desire to want fancy-looking e-mails like they get on their computers. Mobylo understands this, too. That’s why they’ve released Empower, BlackBerry software that allows you to view your e-mails as HTML.

Clever Commute makes the morning drag a bit brighter
Posted by Joe on October 8, 2007
We don’t know about you, but we hate the morning commute. There’s a certain pressure to be at work on time, and sometimes delays are out of your control. It really bothers us, though, when at 8:30 they’re cleaning up an accident that happened an hour ago. Had we heard news of it at that point, we could have taken the train instead of the bus for the day. Alas, in our world of nearly instantaneous communication, we have no such service. Clever Commute is looking to change that, though.

BlackBerry 9000 on the way?
Posted by Joe on October 4, 2007

We love stories like this. We like them more when they come with low-res, Photoshopped, watermarked pictures. Anyway, it appears that RIM is ready to release another generation of BlackBerry sometime in early 2008 (though we’ll surely see a production delay or two before all is said and done). Now, we’re sure you want the juiciness of it all. Fine. Here goes. It’s 3G, and has a 3G radio (::commence salivating::). And it’s HSDPA! Processor? We’re talking 600 MHz (::drooling on keyboard::). So while none of this is confirmed, we’ll be dreaming of the 9000 for at least a couple of weeks.

Yet another BlackBerry outage reported
Posted by Joe on October 3, 2007
While the mainstream media gushes over the CDMA BlackBerry Pearl (the best coverage, as we see it, is over at RIMarkable), it appears that BlackBerry users are experiencing yet another outage. Users in Washington, D.C. and New York are reportedly receiving “blackberry data connection refused” messages when checking their e-mail. Now, this was first reported at around 10:30 this morning, so it’s conceivable that it’s fixed by now (it’s roughly four hours later).

CDMA BlackBerry Pearl on its way
Posted by Joe on October 1, 2007
Some people will tell you that Sprint and Verizon have the best BlackBerry service. We know quite a few of those people ourselves. The reason: faster data connections, especially with Verizon, thanks to their EV-DO Rev. A update. The problem, though, is that if you were a fan of the slimmer BlackBerry Pearl, you were out of luck with any CDMA network; the phone to this point has only been available through GSM providers AT&T and T-Mobile. That will all change in November, though, as RIM will introduce the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 for Verizon and Sprint.
