AT&T not the only company crippling GPS

Posted by Joe on August 23, 2007

It looks like you might be new to our site. You may want to subscribe to the feed or follow us on Twitter.

Earlier this week, we mentioned that AT&T plans to require the use of the TeleNav service to utilize the GPS function in the BlackBerry 8820, slated for release next month. This, of course, didn’t make us happy, as we don’t like shelling out a needless $10 on top of our already expensive monthly plan. It appears that Verizon is playing a similar game — though they’ve completely disabled the GPS function, at least temporarily.

Survey says: BlackBerry is king

Posted by Joe on August 22, 2007

Honestly, we don’t need a survey to tell us that the BlackBerry is the superior smart phone on the market. We’ve tried the Palm, we’ve tried the Q, and we’ve tried the N95. Yet nothing really touches the overall functionality of the BlackBerry. However, when a survey does come out that tells us what we already know, we like to pass it along. After all, everyone needs their opinions validated from time to time.

Boo AT&T: 8820 GPS comes with a catch

Posted by Joe on August 20, 2007

We’re really getting amped up for the BlackBerry 8820 — which is to be released in a month, give or take. It’s like the 8800 on steroids, and the anabolic in question is the built-in WiFi. However, a recent development ensures that we will not be getting it through AT&T. It appears that the company plans to extort money from its BlackBerry subscribers by forcing them to pay another $6 to $10 per month on top of the data plan, lest they have no GPS functionality.

Naomi Campbell, meet Foxy Brown

Posted by Joe on August 16, 2007

You all remember way back, when actress/model Naomi Campbell was charged with assault — for beating her assistant with a cell phone. Yeah, those weren’t the best of times for Ms. Campbell. But the case has been settled, and Campbell is back to leading her run of the mill celebrity life. Unfortunately, her name has popped back into headlines, but not for anything she did. Apparently, rapper Foxy Brown performed a similar act upon a neighbor, evoking memories of the Campbell incident.

Mobile VoIP can save you valuable minutes

Posted by Joe on August 9, 2007

We read this somewhere, but can’t exactly remember the source, so excuse our paraphrasing. Some of the best companies were founded because someone had a problem, and the company’s goal was to solve it. Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of Google, had trouble finding things on the Internet, so they started to figure out a better way to implement search. Steve Jobs and Paul Allen, founders of Apple, were looking for a relatively cheap and easy to use personal computer, so they developed one. Jing Liu, founder of MINO, was having difficulties communicating with business colleagues while he was overseas because international roaming is so expensive. So he developed a mobile VoIP service provider.

BlackBerry users like to goof off, too

Posted by Joe on August 2, 2007

Next time you’re next to someone who’s using a BlackBerry, don’t just assume that they’ve got their nose to the grindstone. It appears that BlackBerry users like to play games a lot — even more than feature cell phone subscribers. Because, you know, all work and no play makes people go crrraaazzy.

If it’s good enough for NASA, it’s good enough for us

Posted by Joe on August 1, 2007

What if we told you that a division of NASA — yes, those guys who send people into space — decided recently that they were going to issue PDAs to their employees? You’d probably think: oh, those tech geeks will probably go batty over the iPhone. It’s all cool and technologically and advanced and all that jazz. Well, the division is ODIN — Outsourcing Desktop Initiative — and their initiative is basically outsource their IT. But guess what? They’re going with the BlackBerry 8800.
