Remember back in April when there was a BlackBerry network crash? Everyone seemed in a panic, as they could no longer access the device that they relied so deeply on. Of course, the problem was solved, and Research In Motion supposedly made sure it was a one-time deal. If it happened with any regularity, their whole product and service would be compromised. Well, it kinda happened again, though it wasn’t nearly as universal.

BlackBerry on the rise, surpasses Motorola
Posted by Joe on July 17, 2007
Motorola has long been the No. 2 supplier of mobile handsets in the world, and has always been regarded as one of the overall top mobile companies. Well, their handset ranking is in jeopardy, with Samsung set to catch them this year. Their overall market value has shrunk, too, as Research In Motion has passed them. This isn’t so much to poke fun at Motorola as to tout the achievements of RIM.

Not always good to be king: RIM sued
Posted by Joe on July 13, 2007
This probably happens more than the public knows, but when news like this reaches us, it’s tough to let it slide as “just another lawsuit.” It’s even tougher when it comes from an industry like arts and crafts. It’s a patent suit brought on by Minvera Industries, Inc. Its founder, John Kim, won a patent case back in 2003 over those pieces of cardboard you put in your windshield in the summer to keep the inside of your car from frying eggs. Now he’s after one of Canada’s top companies.

You wanted WiFi, you got WiFi
Posted by Joe on July 10, 2007
We can’t tell you how many times we’ve wished — and heard other people wish aloud — that the BlackBerry would support WiFi connections. It makes total sense. There are so many WiFi hotspots around, which would certainly speed up the BlackBerrian process. It appears now that our wishes will come true, as Research In Motion has been green lighted by the FCC for the creation of a BlackBerry with WiFi functionality. This is just another in a series of victories for RIM, and although the increase in earnings is wonderful news, this may be the best of the bunch.

What good is a brand new BlackBerry without all the coolest accessories? If you search around, though, most of what you find will be cradles, car chargers, cases, and headsets. While they’re all useful, they’re not exactly fun.

Research In Motion to create iPhone clone?
Posted by Joe on July 9, 2007
There’s this blogger over at ZDNet named Russell Shaw, and we regularly read his “The BlackBerry Beat” blog. The dude is BlackBerry through and through. And even when he provides us with just three paragraphs of information, we tend to eat it up (except when he’s expressing his unabashed hatred for anything Apple). Today, he shares a tidbit about a BlackBerry-branded iPhone.

BlackBerry enters the China market
Posted by Joe on July 6, 2007
The Chinese Ministry of Information Industry, after eight years of attempts by Research In Motion, has finally approved use of the BlackBerry in their country. This news comes at a great time for Research In Motion, who have recently reported large gains in the first quarter of 2007. Not only that, but the agreement may allow RIM to manufacture the devices in China, further saving money and boosting sales.

BlackBerry gives you 25 hours in a day
Posted by Joe on July 6, 2007
Okay, so maybe that’s not entirely true — though we would worship a device that would slow our orbit around the sun. According to research by Research In Motion, the convenience of a BlackBerry can add an hour of productive time to a person’s schedule. This covers travel times, and times where you just can’t think of what to do next. With the BlackBerry, there’s always something to do, and you can do it anywhere.

BlackBerry vulnerable to espionage program?
Posted by Joe on July 3, 2007
Maybe this is what the French were talking about when they banned the BlackBerry. Note that this news is coming in through Australia, and that the application in question might or might not be an issue in the US (we haven’t found anything on the cross check). But it’s a BlackBerry security issue nonetheless. Apparently, there’s been an update to the controversial program FlexiSPY, which is considered by security professionals to be “legal spyware.” We don’t like the sounds of that term.
