Better battery life coming for BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on June 29, 2007

It looks like you might be new to our site. You may want to subscribe to the feed or follow us on Twitter.

Can we be frank for a moment and admit a fault of ours? We’re simply horrible at explaining technical mumbo jumbo. For the most part, we understand it; at least at a base level. But when we try to explain highly technical things (for instance, pending patents), we sometimes confuse even ourselves. We can’t imagine what that does to you, the loyal reader. So we’re going to link out and hope you guys can follow someone who is much better at explaining these things.

AOL Instant Messenger available on BlackBerry via Sprint

Posted by Joe on June 28, 2007

We have to admit that something does peeve us about the BlackBerry. It advertises instant messaging, but that’s really limited to BlackBerry Messenger. There’s nothing wrong with it, really, it’s just that when we hear “instant messaging” we tend to think MSN, Yahoo, or AIM. After all, most of our friends use it, so to have access from our BlackBerry would be pretty sweet. Alas, we’re left wanting in that area. But those crazy cats at Sprint are ready to deliver what we’ve been looking for.

Someone gives Minesweeper a bad review (::gasp::)

Posted by Joe on June 27, 2007

What does Minesweeper have to do with BlackBerry? It just so happens to be one of the newer offerings on the device from CamelMedia Soft. Yes, the bombs and flags that kept you occupied at work in the early 90s is back and ready to cut into your productivity once again. And it’s just $6.99 (we obviously preferred the free version that came on our PCs, but we’ll take what we can get). Of course, leave it to a reviewer to actually say something bad about this game.

Is Motorola “Good” for the BlackBerry?

Posted by Joe on June 26, 2007

Sorry, we couldn’t resist such a punny headline. Anyway, Motorola’s Good Technology division released a new version of Good Mobile Messaging yesterday. Even though it is being developed by the world’s No. 2 handset maker (though that title could be relinquished soon), this technology is intended to be used on a number of smart phone handsets, not necessarily those of Motorola. The big selling point is that it gives IT managers more flexibility than BlackBerry software.

More iPhone/BlackBerry hoopla

Posted by Joe on June 25, 2007

This morning, like most mornings, we were reading article after article, in search of anything BlackBerry related (really, we’re this geeky over it). The news was pretty much the same old, same old — yes, we know that the French have banned the BlackBerry for government communication. The only other big stories to repeatedly reach our inbox related to the iPhone. Yes, you know, that device that’s being released later this week that’s supposed to revolutionize smart phones.

German organization wants to mimic France

Posted by Joe on June 22, 2007

All the big news during the week has been France’s BlackBerry ban. Despite assurances and reassurances from the folks at Research In Motion, the French just want none of it. Apparently, an e-mail that travels through non-French servers is just too much for the overly paranoid nation. But hey, it’s their decision, so let them do as they will. Just don’t bring anyone else into it, okay?

French government turns up nose at BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on June 21, 2007

It appears that the French are just a wee paranoid about the security liabilities of the BlackBerry — and the nosiness of those pesky Americans. You see, they think that the US National Security Agency could (would?) intercept e-mails sent over the BlackBerry server. For what purposes, we did not hear. But that’s the reason the French government is giving for banning the BlackBerry.

iPhone may be great, but won’t overpower BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on June 19, 2007

Much hoopla has been made of the iPhone. It’s really getting to the point where the product cannot possibly meet expectations. Don’t misunderstand: it’s still going to be a stellar and very popular device. However, to live up to being the phone messiah is nearly an impossible task. Living up to the BlackBerry may be a challenge, too.
