Unsurprisingly, analysts differ on BlackBerry, iPhone

When I first read BGR’s iPhone 3G vs. BlackBerry Bold review I thought, “cop out!” The conclusion was that it comes down to personal preference. But then I slogged through the daily news, and found all sorts of tidbits on the two devices. Barron’s cut RIM from “Hold” to “Underperform.” Then we have RIM saying that activations and shipments are 20 to 30 percent ahead of schedule for the past two months. So which is it? This is where it comes back to BGR. “True BlackBerry fans will want the Bold,” they say. And that’s true. Just the same, true Apple fanboys will want the iPhone. I wish we could leave it at that, but I know this discussion will continue well throughout the rest of the year.

“Man, if the Bold screen is really as kick ass as BG says, just imagine how sweet Thunder’s screen could be!!!”

I’m trying to contain my excitement on this until we hear something substantive. I still think that RIM knows what it’s doing, and will pull out all the stops to trump the iPhone, not just match it.

Don’t understand why these stupid analysts and even MORE stupid pundits won’t recognize EXACTLY what BG’s review makes so clear? Bold and iPhone are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT things, marketed to two TOTALLY DIFFERENT audiences. Now, if we ever see the light of Thunder, THAT will be a valid comparison of RIM vs. APPL (and through in the Samsung Instinct while we’re at it). Man, if the Bold screen is really as kick ass as BG says, just imagine how sweet Thunder’s screen could be!!!
