Have you changed your BlackBerry theme lately? I just did a couple of weeks ago. It seems that I’m always on the hunt for the perfect theme, but each time I find one I end up tiring of it a month or so later. Usually I stick with it, just because it’s familiar and most good themes cost money. But every once in a while changing the theme is quite necessary. I think you’ll dig the three themes we have lined up for this week.
iLike
BlackBerry themes that mimic the iPhone skin have been very popular. In our own store we see a few iPhone themes consistently rank among the top sellers. It seems like iPhone themes for BlackBerry are even more appropriate now, given the issues with the iPhone 4 (which, given a little personal experience on one, seem completely overblown). Hedone Design has your answer with their new iLike theme.
I’m impressed by how closely this theme actually does resemble the iPhone, from how the icons pop off the screen to the signature Apple top bar. The theme clearly looks better on the Storm, since the screen size resembles the iPhone, but I had no real problems with the theme on my Tour. There’s nothing extraordinary in terms of function — it just looks like an iPhone. The only thing it’s missing is a sliding home screen.
If an iPhone theme is up your alley you can get the iLike theme for $6.99. If you act by the end of today, June 14, you can get it for $1.99. It is available on all BlackBerry models running OS 4.6 and higher.
Crypto
Sometimes the promo material for a theme impresses me enough to use it. This was the case for Crypto, the latest from JP Designs. I mean, just look at the bright blue colors:

The animations on the theme are neat, though clearly not for everyone. I liken this one to Aliencology, a theme we reviewed last year and which I used on my Tour for a few months. It was tough to get adjusted to that one, but after a few days I loved it. It features a hidden Today screen that you can view and hide by hitting Alt. Also, if you just like the hidden dock and icons, you can always change the wallpaper.
You can get the Crypto theme for just $3.99. Unfortunately, you’ll need OS 5.0 to run it.
Infinity
The folks at Elecite say that their new theme, Infinity, “is like installing a new operating system.” That’s awesome, because we so frequently hear complaints about the BlackBerry OS. It seems like it would require a heck of a theme to accomplish that, though. How much can you do by manipulating the home screen?
The theme features six customizable icons on top of the home screen, followed by four static text icons (phone, people, media, utilities). Below that sits a spot for a weather app, with the date and time to the right of it. Finally, the bottom features a today section for messages. When you select one of the static icons, the custom icon section will expand into four different icons. For example, when you scroll over the phone icon you’ll see Messages, SMS, Calendar, and Browser pop up in the custom section. You can see that in the screen shot, but here’s a video for a clearer explanation:
You can get the Infinity theme for $6.99, but you’ll need OS 5.0 to run it.
