NextPimp gets you real ringtones for your BlackBerry – free

Posted by Joe on October 10, 2008

You might remember Jeremy Schoemaker from his guest appearance on the BBGeekcast. On it, he mentioned a site called NextPimp, which provides real MP3 ringtones for free. For BlackBerry, the site just got better. Jeremy pointed my attention to the NextPimp BlackBerry OTA quicklaunch application (that’s the download link), which allows you to browse the site from your ‘Berry. I gave it a whirl this week, and I have to say I came away impressed.

The best part about the application is the ease. Since it’s a quicklaunch, it takes you to a simple mobile website, where you can browse the top tones, or enter a search term. I wanted me some Zeppelin, so I typed it in and got dozens of results. Unfortunately, half of them were Stairway (No Stairway. Denied). I found “The Ocean,” though, so my phone is now rocking the Zep.

Ok, I lied in the last paragraph. While the ease might be great, the best feature is that you can set your new ringtone to default as you download it. Just check the box, and voila! It’s set to go.

Ok, I lied again. The best part is that it’s free. The users provide the content, and since there are 546,953 members at the time of this writing, I expect there to be an abundant supply of ringtones at Next Pimp now and in the future.

Im confused, you say that Next Pimp is free but when you start to get the ringtone sent to your phone, looks like your joining another site that charges?? So I dint take the chance of getting something on my monthly bill & to wander where the heck it came from. Advise please! and I hate how you can’t send a song to someone on the blackberry I have.
