Themes have been a popular theme (pun intended) on the BBGeeks site in the last little while. We have covered installing new themes and have profiled a number of great themes developed by individuals in the BlackBerry community.

This time around we are going to take a look at a theme called “Real 3D Icons” which is produced by JC Designs – Gadgetbean.com and is available in our BBGeek Store.

WOW my icons really pop now!

This is the first thing you will notice is upon installing and activating the Real 3D Icons theme on your BlackBerry is the great design of the icons. This is particularly fitting since the theme name is derived from the overhaul that they have received this time out.

Instead of having the tiny flat, pseudo shaded icons that appear in the default BlackBerry theme, you will now have lush, slightly larger and highly defined icons which include shadows and highlights like you have never seen before. It is very clear that a lot of work went into making these icons look amazing! I particularly like that they replaced the default browser icon with a safari-like compass design.

How come my other themes are not this clean?

The second thing you will notice is the attention to detail in the overall design of the theme. This is one clean layout!

From the stylish swoops and ribbons of blue that make up the background image, to the over sized font used for the time clock, there is a lot of attention paid to detail. This theme gives off a sophisticated vibe that most other themes on the market have difficulty matching.

Overall, the minimalist nature of the background image and the intense detail on the icons helps them remain visually separate and highly visible individually. It is very easy to browse to an icon with just a quick glance at your device.

The one drawback to having the heavily stylized icons on your desktop is that all non standard icons are limited to their default flat appearance. This makes them stand out quite a bit from their classy neighbors. There is nothing to be done about this besides releasing a pack of icons for every popular application out there which is entirely unfeasible. You are stuck with them if you absolutely need them.

My Opinions

This theme rocks. There is no hint of excess here. Just slick, stylish enhancement. Head on over to the BBGeeks Store and download a copy for your BlackBerry. You will not be disappointed.
